Open Groups

By UnfairBanana, in Imperial Assault Rules Questions

Am I correct in assuming the Imp can select elite (but non-unique) groups when choosing open groups? I didn't see any restrictions on it anywhere, but wanna be sure

That is correct.

The mission setup specifies if some things are not allowed in the open group (factions etc...)

is the Royal guard champion, a unique figure?

Yupp. - It has the * by his name on the card.

thanks, i have to earn him

Imperials can earn Royal Guard Champions? If so how? I played a mission with him...that mean I got him now?

Open groups can include red guys? But it is a black number, not a red number.

No, to select him as an Open Group you have to earn him by winning the Imperial Side Mission "Infection" (from the "Crimson Empire" Agenda set) of the upcoming Expansion Pack.

Got it.

But I can put an elite Stormtrooper in my Open group despite it just having a black number?

Yes, because it has not "black square" on the left of his name.

Allies with a "black square" on the left of their names are Unique (and if defeated cannot be deployed again).

My understanding is this

Open Group

  • None Elite Imperial or Mercenary
  • Elite Imperial or Mercenary
  • Can use a Named Villain after completing the mission and unlocking said Villain
  1. Place starting unit cards face up
  2. Place reserved cards face down
  3. Take # equal to the # of open groups available and place them face down next to the reserve group
  4. Imperial deployment cards not being used then are put back away
