Has anyone actually won a game with this list? I guess if this list worked it might see Arvel have a use for joining in on the fortress and just pecking the Decimator to death.

It was conceived and won a game today

Not actually a very effective strategy (it only works against people who don't know how to fight it), and if it was, FFG would kill it. The only reason they haven't is despite it being described as a "negative play experience for the opponent" by the designers, it doesn't actually work very well.

This one, for example, I would deal with by flying behind the Lambda and repeatedly crashing into the Decimator. The Decimator can't hit colliding ships and the Lambda can't shoot backwards. Take free shots at the Lambda until it dies and I'm fighting one Decimator and am perfectly positioned to concentrate fire on it.

That, or just stay out of Range 3. Not really interested in fighting a fortress in a game I'm meant to enjoy.

Well i don't see it winning against a few b's and z's but if you can prove its torney viable good luck to you.

Ion the Lambda, everything moves. Get behind the Lambda and out of arc of the Decimator and the Tactician is useless.

Or if they stress your lambda though shooting after wing-man's effect it cant do the stop again.

Decimators goes down VERY fast when they're not trying to dodge some arc so, I really don't expect this build to last long. Concentrate fire on the Decimator and it should be dealt with in 2-3 turns: 4B1Z with focus will give it in average around 10 damages first turn, and that's not taking crits in consideration.

You can also ram everything into the decimator, and fire at the lambda while the decimator cannot return fire -

Taking out the decimator first though is probably the better bet, it's not getting to modify its attack - gunner helps.

By dodging the Lambda's arc, using R2-D2's regen and taking on the Decimator one on one?

Cannons at range three from outside the lambda's arc.

Fire once, turn away, ignore the decimater entirely.

The person you beat was most likely inexperienced against a fortress. You will probably notice that members of this forum have plenty of ways of taking it down.

This list is no different than the 10 other fortress builds I've seen. Try something else, you might win more often. You're welcome.

Easily yea. It wouldn't even be a contest really.

I feel the fortress tactic in any flavour is at best going to work exactly once per opponent. It's just not a great overall strategy.

Not to stir this argument up again, but I love X-Wing and rarely have a chance to play anymore. If you were my opponent, unless we were already good friends, I would finish our game, then actively avoid playing you in the future.

A lot of players view this type of list as "not actually playing" as the game is about maneuvering, not the lack of. Considering I get maybe 2-3 games in a month, I would consider this a wasted game and go home sub-pleased.

Again, not trying to be rude or judgmental, but using these types of list can be alienating to other players.

This is the equivalent to inviting your friend over to kill each other on call of duty and you glitch into a box making it hard for him to fight you.

I feel like this detracts from the game simce it is about flying better than your opponent, not who can be the best homogenous mass of ships.

Well I thought it was a fun idea and felt like sharing. I actually have well thought out builds and now that I see there's a community here who will give feedback (negative or not) I will be posting actual lists that won't enrage people. This list is just for fun I completely agree it's cheesy.

Nothing wrong with the list....it's not "cheesy". As pointed out though, it actually also isnt that strong against an experienced player. it's FAR too easy to get around.

If you have fun flying it though and find it works for you, go nuts! Never let anybody dictate what you can or cant do with your time or the models you bought.

The tactic has left a bitter taste in the mouth of many people after worlds. Those who feel that the game should be about flying not about not-flying.

I personally find that view a little hypocritical given there are many different methods of non-engagement, but it's still important to be aware that a significant portion of people have this view.

Fly what you want how you want. It's well within the rules of the game, and let those that choose to take offence, take offence.

A more cheesy fortress list would be not to worry about the shuttle or the stress mitigation with wingman and just run two decimators and deploy them facing each other.

I still like the Lando and Leebo with determination and sabatour facing each other.

When I got the Decimator this was pretty much the first list I thought of - I ran it a couple of times and was obliterated by a couple of Phantoms and then by Dash and a couple of A-Wings. It's a good idea in theory but tough to execute on against skilled flyers

That list is so easy to kill. Anybody with a minimum of brain will concentrate fire on the decimator will being out of the shuttle arc. You only shoot with 3 dice while your enemy shoot with 6-14 dice.

People hate fortress not because they are hard to counter but because they offer a very uninteresting fight.

It is like a MMA match where your opponent would do nothing but run around the cage... You would be like: "Comon, we are supposed to fight".
