Armada is on the way; officially

By Enquiringnewt, in Star Wars: Armada

On its way? Is it? Is it really?!

Not that I doubt the sincerity of the OP, mind. But there are no facts on the internet (and that is a fact) - only vary degrees of misinformation and optimism. As my optimism is burned out completely (since about 1997) I will continue to wait for an official, Official announcement, and not keep running down to the LGS with the old 'any news yet?' approach. I am not making any friends by doing that, and in our hearts we all know that we are now in that strange part of the galaxy that runs on FFG-time - minutes, hours, release dates... they mean SFA!

There was a thread in Imperial Assault that pointed out that it makes a difference whether you use the www. in the URL for the upcoming page... I have no idea why this is the way it is, but it is definitely on the boat when you visit the URL without using www.

This -- and the "connection not private" warnings make me wonder what in Vader's name is up with the FFG web site...

Is Thrawn spying on us? Is this the beginning of an attempt to destabilize the Earth by really honking off us gamer-nerds? Could it be a prelude to invasion?!? :o

This is another problem with the freedom in the internet in general. The warning is caused by an not officialy recocnized (but none the less fully functional and secure) ssh certificate (a key used to encode your connects against man in the middle listening). Registering that certificate costs money. Im sure ffg payed for it, its just not working at times.

The bad thing about it is that the guys who wrote your browser thought its a good idea to scare you just because the site owner didnt pay for an official registration of its ssh certificate. Its has nothing to do with the security of the protocoll but that is suggested by the warning. For private persons like me useing such ssh keys on theire servers thats just a mess. For me it compleetly doesnt matter if some officials verify that its me who picked that random security code as long as the code is working. Maybe one bad thing about it, you cant be sure you are actually connecting to FFG when you see this.

I certainly hope this is true! My birthday is just over a week away, would be great to get myself this game.

As Abraham Lincoln said:

"Everything on the Internet is true."

As Abraham Lincoln said:

"Everything on the Internet is true."

And to paraphrase the late Leonard Nemoy: Everything on the internet is true, by which I mean false. It's all lies, but they are entertaining lies, and isn't that the real truth? The answer is no.

Given that they just updated Wave 1 to "On the boat" I don't expect a full release within the next few weeks. Like everyone else I'd be appreciative of a general timeline, though. Too much anticipation!

Didn't FFG get burnt on a firm date for a past game? One that wasn't delivered due some sort of transportation delay?

Or am I misremembering?

Given that the "www." version is where you go to off the official site, I would be extremely skeptical of anything that comes up by messing with the URL.

Let's forget for a moment that I jealously hate you right now ;) and please answer a question for me. Are you guys playing on just a 3x3 or do you use the 3x6?

The 3x3 is for the "introduction" game that you can play with the starter set - (which is what I believe Forensicus is demoing), the "full" 300 point games are played on the 3x6.

Indeed correct.

Oh, please be a legitimate post...

Hello Community,

For reasons of business security I won't post my name or my company's name, but I wanted to alleviate some tension in the community and tell you that Armada is officially on it's way to U.S. distribution centers; likely to arrive at the end of the week of 3/16 or the beginning of the following week.

Good hunting; o7

Edit #1: Reply: To the folks whom are worried about a troll; I assure you this is not. I got excited myself when I received the news and made an account specifically for it. Keep your eye here on Monday when I get a hard delivery date from UPS Freight.

It's not that we don't believe, it's just we've just been hurt so many times

This is beginning to sound like a bad relationship.

<begin nerd rant > The thing that bugs me: FFG is a multi-thousand dollar enterprise. yet they somehow do not have the www. and non-www. versions of their website redirecting correctly? (Or cross-updating correctly, or what-ever.)

Sheesh! <end nerd rant>

It doesn't strike you more as oversight or laziness? There are many other 3/12 entries beyond the Armada wave on there. It doesn't look like a situation where they accidentally popped them up to the boat because the text had to be changed for Q2 as well. I am more skeptical of their new web site than the validity of all the changes listed for 3/12. But if it is wrong and unintentional it's just more reason to dump the whole upcoming page and just stick with even more vague information.

Also FFG is a multi-Million dollar company.

This kind of reminded me of Austin Powers. :D

Doc Evil is very much what I was going for.

Don't get me wrong -- I love FFG. While the wait and the not knowing stinks on carbonite, they generally get the games right.

What annoys ME is that they are an international company , but for reasons freakin unknown I have to wait for America to get its stuff distributed over its country, before me in Australia can actually get it. Europe seems to have it direct, so why the frak do they have to delay to wait for America? Why is this still a thing?

First, I feel your pain.

Second, I'm betting they are looking for everyone to get it at as close to the same time as possible in order to prevent arbitrage.

Oh please, arbitrage? So someone out there is looking to make their fortune by simulatenously buying then selling Armada Core packs? to make a profit.

Good luck to the them then!

Their distribution point should be in a Chinese city somewhere, preferrably reasonable close to the factory where they get made and packaged. In this day and age, a product shouldnt need to be created in China, packaged in China, sent on a boat to America , get transported to a distribution centre so some computer can print out a sticker so the item gets shipped to Aus. (transported back to the docks, then on another Container ship). Its a highly inefficient way of distribution and is more or less done to employ some people back in America in the warehouse.

To be honest I don't think the market s large enough in Australia to warrant direct shipping from China. I know it sounds silly to ship from China to the US then to Australia but I'm sure its done from a price point perspective.

Does this include Wave 1? most certainly not, just asking.
