Book Bindings

By Christophermarshall6, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I have had the bindings on both my EotE and AoR core books seperate from the cover and pages. Has anyone else had this issue? Does anyone have any recommendations on how to fix this? Soon please, my books are less than a year old and falling apart.

Does this help?

None of the books in our collection have had any issues.

I purposely destroyed one in an attempt to scan it into a pdf. That didn't work out so well for us. But, other than that, the books have all fared pretty well.

Thankfully I have not had this issue, but it looks like awayputurwpn is on top of the solution for crafty people.

Take a photo of the damaged product and send it to customer service. If it's not typical wear, they may replace it for you. They did that for me when my Dark Heresy 2 book started to fall apart a week after purchase.

FFG Customer Service is really top notch all the way around.

My EotE beta book did that, but since it was a limited-life product I wasn't surprised. And now it sees almost no use since we've got the full core. My EotE core book has a few places where the pages are separating slightly but it doesn't seem to be worsening.

My 1st printing Edge of the Empire core is splitting, so I've been using the Age of Rebellion core more at the gaming table. When the EoE book finally gives in, I'll just replace it with whatever the latest printing is, and I'll give the splitter to one of my players.

I'm a bit worried about this, mostly because my players tend to hand books around open, which kills bindings quickly. But in general, these books are very solidly constructed. None of mine are more then two months old though.

Perhaps I am lucky and careful, but I wanted to present that even after years of use my books have no problems with bindings.

My players do this too. I get mad and tell them not to do that, but they don't really learn.

I had a binding go on me, but only because I dropped the book and it landed wrong, tearing the spine out. But that was unusual punishment.

Amen! I wound up losing a yellow and asked them if they could hook a brother up with another one, so I didnt have an incomplete set. Sure enough - they sent me one. . . . that was stolen in the mail (the envelope arrived just fine - sans die). I told them what happened and they were nice enough to send me one more. Top marks all around.

Okay. That's just awesome.

I mentioned this in another thread, but it could be useful here regarding books that have broken up:

I'd recommend taking that baby in to Staples or some-such and having them cut the spine off cleanly (for about $1). Then [...] have it spiral-bound for a couple of bucks (I do this with music books all the time) with clear plastic covers. No need to stop using it!

On the 'new' board theme, that white print won't show up at all.

If I ever find a book on the cheap - binding shot or not - I might do this anyway. Trim out the fluff, reorganize pages according to my whim and generally streamline things down to my tastes.

Thanks for the tip. And wouldn't ya know, the editing window has closed!

I'd love to have seen the look on the thieves face when finally gets a good look at what he slipped into his pocket on the sly (and committed a felony for) and went "What the **** is this thing?!?"

I'd guess that it probably just slipped loose and ended up somewhere in the truck. One of my friends had ordered a couple sets of custom dice a few months ago and the package was delivered, but the box was partially open and most of the dice were gone. He checked with the carrier, and they ended up finding them scattered all over the truck amongst the other packages. I think he was able to actually get all of them back.

That was my first thought too - that it probably just got caught in a machine somewhere. But looking at the envelope and the little ziplock inside, it has a very distinctly "I'm being sneaky about this" tear to both.

My first printing of edge of the empire core went bad

My 2 ms printing is starting to go bad

My age of rebellion is starting to go bad

My jewel of yavin is starting to go bad

My Lords of bank hutts is starting to go bad.

And I try super hard to take care of them.

I just figured the books are poorly constructed.

I have purchased multiple copies of books because they don't last

Good to hear that some people have no troubles. Maybe I should contact customer service.

Autocorrect gone bad?

Seriously, it sounds like you might have something environmental going on, because all of those books should not have gone bad. First step is to contact customer service and talk to them.

Yea, I'd say there's something environmental going on there, because you're one of the few people I've heard of that have had multiple books going bad on you.

I'd say they're in a place that is either too damp, or too dry. Both can cause bindings to fail.

My Lords of bank hutts is starting to go bad.

Whoa, that just came out! How are you carrying them around?

Oh, they'll learn when you start giving them an extra black die on rolls because they did that :)

Yes, I know this is unfair, but so is ruining the books for the person who paid for them.
