Luck has nothing to do with it

By Ziusdra, in X-Wing Squad Lists

(PS3) Eaden Vrill + Intelligence Agent (33 pts.)

(PS2) Wild Space Fringer + Outrider + "Mangler" Cannon + Intelligence Agent (40 pts.)

(PS4) Gray Squadron Pilot + Ion Cannon Turret + R3-A2 + BTL-A4 (27 pts.)

Actually, this squadron needs to get lucky attack rolls. I don't see much TL+Focus action happening in this economy.

Order of operations:

Activation phase: Intelligence Agent lets me look at my higher-PS opponent's manuevering dials, giving me insight into where my YT-2400s need to go in order to make sure Phantoms and Interceptors are in range, or if I can barrel roll into their flightpath and make them bump. Then I activate them, and have the advantage of never wasting a barrel roll and taking Focuses with confidence knowing my opponent's movements.

Attack phase: Gray Pilot shoots first, twice, blessing his opponent with two stress tokens (one for each attack) and possibly an ion token. Gray will basically remain stressed all game; Stressbot allows him to keep piling on the stress, and I feel no pressing need to shed it. Granted, it's going to be a hell of a game trying to maneuver my Y-Wing toward the enemy and keep an enemy always in his sights. He exists mostly to hunt down slow-manuevering, low-evade Decimators/Shuttles/Falcons/Firesprays.

Eaden fires next, he'll always get three attack dice. I'm not worried about my opponents not having stress. Even if I didn't have my Stressbot Y-Wing, things like PTL, the S-Loop, and Inertial Dampeners are so common now that almost every opponent will be giving themselves stress without my help. Elusiveness, Stay on Target, and Experimental Interface, while less common, are also out there for my advantage, not to mention normal red maneuvers.

Finally, WSF performs the final attack with the Mangler cannon. Hopefully by this point Focus and Evade tokens will be spent, making that last crit actually count, while denying the extra evade die at range 3.

It's not perfect. I hate having a low action economy, and that Y-Wing is going to be a nightmare to pilot.

What can I do to improve this?

no no no, it's all wrong

the title should read "In my experience, there's no such thing as luck."

I wasn't trying to make a Star Wars quote, but sure.

Also, instead of a BTL-A4 Y-Wing, I'm considering Stressbot Biggs + Tactical Jammers on both YT-2400s. Thoughts on that alteration?

Biggs is just designed to live as long as possible and die. I wouldn't try to make him do anything else.

im sorry but with the title i thought id see wedge in this

Consider a VI + AS + Corran and possibly taking btl off the Y..."you can't have your cake and eat it too" the Y is terribly unmaneuverable especially stressed, you'll never get a good opportunity to attack.. Also Id get rid of outrider and switch to another ion as it will prove more useful in the end game, I mean it is a support ship... And Corran, arguably the best all around ship on the game, would bring this list to a enjoyable level Imoo.

I really like it the way it is; fearless and inventive. You know your weaknesses, but I know I'd be intimidated just seeing two 2400s AND a Y-wing stress bot on the table.

And your title reminds me of Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. I think Dr. Sid says this to Aki Ross.
