List for the TO - what's the etiquette?

By jme, in X-Wing

I posted this last night under Organized Play -- figured I'd better put it here if I want it to actually be seen. Sorry for the double post.

Hi, all:

Heading to my first tourney on Saturday, and I want to make sure I have my list ready for the TO -- what's the proper and/or preferred method? Do TOs prefer FFG's Squad List Sheet, or is a simple print from Word of the pertinent data (pilot, upgrades, points) the norm? I know voidstate's squad builder can generate an id that makes a list easy to plug into cryodex then list juggler -- do you all just print your list from voidstate's site (or one of the other sites)?

And on voidstate's builder, is the 6-digit number shown in the "view" & "tweak" addresses the ID that gets plugged into cryodex?

Oh, and you just take 1 additional copy of your list for your opponents to review, yes?

Thanks very much, folks!

I don't think they have anything that can plug directly into Cryodex yet. I know they're working on it, but I don't think it's quite there yet.

But anything that lists the pilots, ships, upgrades, costs, should be good enough. You can print directly from Voidstate or Yet Another, or copy/paste it into word. Just as long as it that data I think you're fine.

Edit: You can take a list for the other person to look at if you want, but it's not required. They can your cards so there's no need to show them a list.

In the last tournament I TO'd, I ask everyone to bring 2 copies of their list.

I suggested using (Yet Another) X-Wing Squad Builder, as it is my personal squad builder of choice, but got squad lists in a variety of formats.

I had multiple copies of FFG's squad sheets available, with pens, for anyone who didn't print it out before hand (some people don't have printers at home).

I've never attended a tournament that didn't have spare copies of the FFG Squad List sheet, but you'll save a bit of time for yourself if you bring one that's already complete.

There's no requirement that you provide a copy of your list to your opponent, but again, it can simplify things as you're sitting down to the table.

I'm going to an Open Play on Sunday... what is the proper etiquette there? since it's not an actual tourney, i figure things would be much less formal, but i honestly dont know. This will be the first time ive gone to ANY event... Heck, it'll be the first time I've played against anyone who hasn't known me for more than 5 years.

They will either ask you to fill out a squad list that they will provide or if you bring a pre-printed squad list most T.O.s will accept that

There likely isn't anything special you need to do at all. It sounds like it's just a time set aside for people to play.

So bring your stuff, and play what ever list strikes your fancy or make one on the spot. There isn't likely an requirement that you stick to a single list the whole time or anything.

Most likely it's no different than playing with your friends only it will be people you don't already know.

Cool. That's what I figured, but I was worried I was missing something. This is also my first minis game I've ever gotten into, so I'm not just new to the game, I'm new to basically the whole format.

I play D&D, but it's not the same at all, haha.

Thanks for the help!

Let people know that and you should be fine. If they know you've only played with friends before they should be willing to let some things slide and explain how they do it there.

Thanks for the responses regarding tourneys, folks. Wish me luck!

I had my list done professionally at Kinko's, bound and laminates.
