Multiples Arcane Struggles and Moving the Scenery

By PRODIGEE, in CoC Rules Discussion

I did have an argumentation with a french player according to the wording of the card "Moving the Scenery" and "Total Eclipse":

-- Neutral --
Moving the Scenery
------------------
Type : Event
Coût : 2
Sous-type :
Descriptif : Response: after you win an icon struggle by at least 2 icons, move a success token from one side of a story to another.
Citation : Brodighera's opera had only ever been performed once, but the Foundation planned to revive it, for a special weekend of music dedicated to the memory of the late Miss Glasser.

Total Eclipse
-------------
Type : Event
Coût : 2
Sous-type :
Descriptif : Play during your story phase, before characters are committed to stories. Action: Resolve an additional A struggle at all stories this phase.
Citation : The fact that it was not truly night did not stop the strange, nocturnal creatures from attacking.

So, according to my opponent, the A struggle resolves twice, so, in case he triggers the Moving the Scenery's effect winning the two struggles with 2 icons at least, he would gain Two success tokens.

I told him that this was a response which triggers only with the opportunity given by the win of a struggle ... But he asked me I need to ensure this point ^^ So, feel free to answer !

No, you're right. It only resolves for one struggle.

Marius - that is my instinctive response as well, but "Why?" How would one come to that conclusion independently? Why doesn't it apply to each time you win an icon struggle by at least two, or did I just answer my own question? (It doesn't say "each")

The trick is: Moving the Scenery is a response event card. Once it's trigger is set, it becomes 'active' and you may play it during the next response window. This means you play it from your hand. Then it's gone, and you can't use it to respond again. It doesn't matter if it's the same response window or the next turn; Once you play an event, it's gone from your hand.

Now, if there was a card like:

-- Shub-Niggurath --
Ghoul Khanum
------------
Type : Character
Cost : 6
Skill : 3
Icons : TTCA
Subtype : Monster.
Game Text: Fast. Toughness +2. Response: after you win an icon struggle by at least 2 icons, put a success token on the story that Ghoul Khanum was committed.

...that won't trigger from your hand as an event does, the multiple arcane struggles will work, as it triggers from something in play, that stays in play, so it has the chance to actually trigger multiple times.

...and that's why it'll take a loooooong time before we see GK back in LCG form, even though it was a very nice and popular card. And why 'Moving' hardly sees any play even though the abilities are similar on the surface...

Thank you very much Marius !

You maybe raised a point that interest me, speaking of the GK.

Some cards are besed on the advantage given by the win or lose of struggles. Which is nice but hardly get implemented by the multiplication of struggles.

If we refer to the Last AP, there were cards like Sleeples nights, Grim Wraith and Antediluvian dreams ... And others like Crackdown or Political demonstration ...but they do'nt interact to increase each one power.
