2015 Regional Locations Announced

By Deltmi, in X-Wing

I'm glad Southern California got one. I'm guessing there will be close to 100 ppl at the Regional in San Diego

That would be cool but pretty doubtful. The Milwaukee area Regional last year had 50 people +/- and I thought that was the largest or close to the largest. I'm just not sure the game has grown quite that much. Wouldn't you almost have to split that into two separate groups just to get the thing completed?

Not even close. Last year, FFG had 140-ish and Madness has 70-ish.

AEG Store Championship had 41. And 95% were from San Diego proper. All other Southern California Store Championships averaged 25-30 each! The 3 I went to had 30, 22, and 37 respectively. So it's not unreasonable to think 100+ ppl will show up for the Regional given people from AZ and Nor Cal will probably travel.

Just St. Petersburg for Florida, huh? It's not that bad a drive from Orlando to Tampa, but oh god Tampa to St. Pete can try the soul.

Herm... Interesting... the two I went to last year are hosting again this year. Mr. Nice Guy Games in Monroeville PA and Epic Loot and Games in Centerville, OH. Is this a coincidence, or are a lot of the stores repeats from last year?

Total Escape in CO is a repeater. I think that Empire in AZ and The store in Alphretta GA are the same as last year also.

Negative on the store from alpharetta being the same. The store from last year isn't In business anymore.

After winning a Store Championship I'd love to go to a Regional, but the 2 closest to me are so close to GenCon's date that I can't afford to go to one and then GenCon. Oh well there is always next year.

This breaks my heart, all regionals within 5-6hrs will take place when I'm out of the country.

Forgot about the FFG regional. I would expect them to lead attendance again. What was the other one? Not familiar with it.

Madness as in Madness in Plano?

Just St. Petersburg for Florida, huh? It's not that bad a drive from Orlando to Tampa, but oh god Tampa to St. Pete can try the soul.

That's one of those funny little quirks of local geography you have to have experienced firsthand to know, though: it's not FFG's fault that, through the miracle of Florida-style "planning" for transportation, there's no sane way to get to St. Pete from anywhere east of I-75*.

(*I'm pretty sure the intersection of I-4 and I-275 forms the sigil Odegra in the language of the Black Priesthood of Ancient Mu.)

So why isn't this posted in the news section? If it hadn't been for the forums I would have missed it and the new tourny FAQ.

No details for St. Pete yet, but I'm glad there's at least still one in the state this year and I don't have to consider driving to Georgia. Which is great, because the Georgia X-wing Regionals is the same day as the Palm Bay Netrunner Regional. That would have been a frustrating decision.

Oh good, now it's all dusty in here...

It's right at the top of the news page, it's on the front page, it's been tweeted, it's been facebooked? The announcement is for the regional championships of all their competitive games, not just X-Wing.

Ok, my bad! I have the X-Wing page book marked and just look at the news on the X-Wing page.

Madness as in Madness in Plano?

Yeah, there were enough people at Madness Games and Comics last year for 7 rounds of swiss. From what I heard, it was the second largest regional in the US.

How was the Colorado regional last year?

We met at Total Escape last year, didn't we? It was a nice venue.

EDIT: Also, how the hell can that be last year already?

I believe so, I don't think we got a chance to play one another, but I tried to get around and meet everybody I could. Total Escape is pretty great for playing x-wing. Plenty of space and friendly staff. And yeah the time just evaporates.

I stand corrected, thanks :) Was it in Alphretta last year or has my mind completely melted down?

How was the Colorado regional last year?

It was a good time. John the TO ran a tight tournament and the competition was fierce but friendly (for the most part). Turn out was 26 or so I believe. More folks from out of town than I would have guessed (and it was really great to meet everyone, lots of good people) but at the time I chalked it up to the low number of regionals in a given geographic area. It will be interesting to see if there are a lot of tourists this year again or if the increase in regional tournies will keep people closer to home.

I think the CO regional will see a rise in attendance, particularly from locals this year. Should be exciting, I feel like the meta in the Denver-ish region has really grown since last July.

Too bad I'll be out of town for the regional :( I could be the only person to bring a phantom again (kidding). Someone save me a Boba card! :)

Whew. Alrighty. Well, y'all got one more coming up this year. Here's hoping I can get in some more games before then, I think I'm gonna need the practice to hold my own in a crowd like that.

I think the Atlanta Regional last year was held in Duluth, GA. I was in attendance, but I didn't drive (or pay much attention on where we were going).

Correct! It was a good venue. Shame they shut down
