Talk to me about Leona

By MegaGeese, in UFS General Discussion

With Rejection no longer an issue, I'm thinking that one-shot aggro will make a comeback. It's no coincidence that both Astaroth's and Ragnar's support carry two of our girl's symbols.

Origins Unknown and TWoP are your bread and butter for an Earth build, and you might as well mulligan if you don't draw either of these. Brooding and Hungry for Battle provide renewable pumps if you prefer to string out several attacks, but when I have tested her out, she has been more consistent with one big nasty attack. The good news is, both augment Origins Unknown. Same goes for Blinding Rage (somewhat diminished in utility in the post-ban world) , Tae Kwon Do Zephyr, and Enraged Golem.

Without the Owl to take care of No Memories/Holding Ground and other party poopers, it boils down to Program Malfunction and Inhuman Perception.

Attack-wise, I haven't been using Cobra Blow, because I've been worried about consistency. Only having 16 attacks is a little risky, and you honestly can't rely on Leona's damage pump ability, but by adding Cobra Blow to the mix, there are effectively four fewer chances for it to trigger. Its 2-check also worries me. While it's never a good thing to fail checks on the first turn, she's already making a huge concession with that squishy vitality. Slash Elbow is amazing with her, as she satisfies its condition as a damage pump. Consequently, every attack in my build is a mid zone: Hades Axe, Backhanded Axe Slash, and Hades round out the lineup.

Actions are how she really kills once either Origins Unknown or TWoP hits the board. Berserker Rage, Genocide, Slash Elbow, and Through the Defenses all add up, and can be quite lethal IF she goes off. I play her as if the game only lasted 3 turns, chewing up my own tiny vitality with Brooding and Berserker Rage for that extra push. When she works, it's a thing of beauty... like blunt-force trauma.

Genocide Leona definitely has some legs, especially when Program Malfunction can become a 2-turn freeze if you leave it tapped for Genocide.

Strenuous Training is IMO staple-worthy for any deck that uses Origins Unknown + single big move strategy, +4 dmg on a 1/4 +1M earth/fire? noice

and about Yuri being the queen of agro right now, yes she is but she also has one thing that will hurt her a little bit, she lost Rejection with the recient bannings but yes she also gained ground with Owlface, LOTM & Chesters going away, and the errata to China Box and Feline Spike helped her tremendously, maybe we'll see more Yuri decks now, but i doubt it.

Rejection was but a mere loss when you consider her E Commit conjunction with her very own Battle Prowess. That, and with the ability to abuse both Aquakinesis and Bigger They Are, she can throw gigantic strings of Swallow Slam, High Plasma Beam, and Yi Shan's Tiger Claw (4 difficulty 8 damage? sign me up!)

no shinji whats REALLY dumb is to have 4 needs no ally in play, naming Good, Order and 2 other symbols, then go Circuit Scrapper -> Reborn Slasher and use the combo E and Yuri E, thats stupid, but yeah i see what you mean, though i dont run Battle Prowess anymore...

N.J.

Someone build a Hunger for Souls + All Life is Prey Leona and report back to me. It seems like it has some potential... spill ALiP + pile of earth/fire stuff + Origins Unknown T1, then throw a move to scoop their board into another move with +10dmg from ALiP, then build again and repeat next turn.

Personal best - 13 destroyed foundations in one turn (total between the two sides), then into a 15 speed Zessho Hoho. Two copies of I'm All Life is Prey, a Commitment to Awesome, a Dream Remnants, and a landed Leona enhance later, it was a 15 M 65 against an empty staging area. Wheeeee

Fire version seems a bit too combo-like for me. And Good eats it alive with that ridiculous walling bullcrappery it's so good at. It would lol @ lots of other stuff, though.

Oh Leona... your E is so unreliable, but so delightfully overkill when it lands. <3

You could probably make due with Earth jank + high level of Fire overlap + splash the Prey, I bet. And Life chains, because I seriously get bit by the trisymbol bug whenever I do something. Although, hey, there is Regretful Existance (iirc), blow something up for +2 dmg, on both Earth and Life, not to mention Torn Hero and whatever else.

(on an unrelated note, jebus, All Life is Prey is like the most unfortunate name ever to try to shorten up. Just "Prey" sounds weird, "All Life" sounds like you're talking about symbols, "Life is Prey" doesn't hardly shorten it, ALiP looks funky and couldn't possibly make sense if you don't know exactly what it was beforehand... )

I've started saying "Your life is dinner" xD

I'm excited about the prospect of Life Leona, with janky ubersurvival techs, but I think Earth base with some overlap will work the best, ultimately.

btw, iSpin + Intimidating Presence = yum

i played lifey leona again last week. she cut her self with tira's asset and then healed rofl. sucked against astrid though, she had to block every single attack @_@

Quoted for truth. That Astrid beat my Cassandra as well as Lin's Morrigan one round each, I believe.

The Astrid didn't beat my Morrigan. I could've killed her but she reversed me at the last second then time was called. I still lived through the reversal though. serio.gif A tie.

My bad, I thought she won one round, I know it didn't beat you 2 of 3.

any astrid would beable to pump each attack to above my max vitality no problems o_o

But you can rip her face off by T2, before she even realizes what happened. gran_risa.gif

But seriously, though, props to MegaGeese and the guys for that nasty ALIP twist on the deck. I had only seen her running off Earth, with giant Tiger Fury to face on T3 or bust, but this sounds even more fun to have on board. aplauso.gif

Unfortunately, half the time I don't even get to use Hungry for Dinner. I end up blowing up our entire staging areas over and over again every second or third turn. I usually get an edge of 1-2 foundations when doing so, but still. It needs a LOT of refinement at this point, if I want it to be more than just a fun deck.

Plus i gotta make the Earth version of the deck. Revenant's ahoy! And the Life version. OMG, I can't wait to seriously play Tough Outer Shell in something =D

i just built an earth version that runs half six checks. i can spam 6-7 foundations a turn easy. turn 2 is just spamming throws. thank god for close throw.

Meh. How's it gonna kill them?

Waffle - I think I've decided that, as hilarious as Hungry for Dinner is, it's just not working. The Your Life is Dinner are usually gone from my staging area by the time this goes off, so it's fairly ineffective. Make no mistake, it's painful when it does - 17 damage iSpin ftw. But it's just simpler to control with So Hungry for Souls and Intimidating Presence along with iSpin, and either take them down slowly as such like that, or use Stand Off to make things easier and improve Leona's survivability. I'mma go edit my build in the DB forum so you can take a look at where I'm at now.

Haha, cool cool.

The next time someone mentions Infiltrating Ibuki in any context, I'm going to point them at your deck lol. Oh, grey cards? Let me take care of those for you! :D
