Squads and Squadrons optional rules

By RusakRakesh, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

Hi!

What is your experience with the Squads and Squadrons rules?

After trying it along "Dead in the Water" and occasionally for Adversaries, I am think about expending it, with formations and a less crunchy, more fluffy spending Advantage and Threat table.

I am thinking about changing "Mission Specialist" Formation to be named "Veteran officer", and making another formation called "Mission Specialist" that lets the Leader of the formation make the noted checks (Computers, Mechanics, Medicine, Skulduggery, Survival, or any Knowledge) using his Willpower and an allies relevant skill (usually a Rival type NPC, which has ranks in skills).

I used them in the last session with a group of droid fighters that were slaved to the PCs' commands. I told the players that the control interface only allowed for some very basic commands, and they ran with it. Those droids probably got them through the combat much easier than they would have otherwise; I even gave them the ability to break up the squadron and let the droids do their own thing, but they preferred having them as backup to their actions.

Also, they weren't shy about deflecting hits to the droids and blowing them up.

The Droid Liberation Army will probably want to "speak" with them soon.

Used it once in my last session

Player formed up with 12, and by the end of the encounter he was the only one left.

Granted it was the remains of the Squads and droids from the Deep dark (beyond the rim) so it was a rather nasty fight. It was sort of like fall of siagon but with less people and more death
