I've read the Mars trilogy from Kim Stanley Robinson that was the first sci-fi novel (for me) that presents the concept of the space elevator in such details.
Needless to say, I was thrilled when I found out that Android uses such an elevator in its setting.
But something bugs me. From the rulebook page 17:
The Beanstalk consists of five locations stretching between the Earth and the Moon. They are the Root, the Midway, Castle Club, the Challenger Memorial Ferry, and Starport Kaguya. The two ends of the Beanstalk are the Root (on the Earth) and Starport Kaguya (on the Moon) .
Err have the Moon stopped orbiting Earth at some point in the future? Because if it haven't, the Beanstalk just doesn't make any sense.
Looking forward to your wild theories on the subject
