Kavil's Marauders

The following is a list I have been testing. It's pretty hardy and delivers a serious punch as well. Kavil is useful against those pesky Phantoms and Interceptors and the Warthogs can hold their own against most fighters and large ships. The humble Z-95 is actually quite useful and he may get a Feedback Array in place of Kavil's bomb. I prefer my Warthogs to be at PS4, reduces Predator's effect on them and allows them a chance to shoot up B-wings before they shoot if Blues and at least a chance if they are Daggers if I can win initiative. (Another test will be to run Kavil without the bomb and play a 2 pt initiative bid)

Looks interesting. Nice to see the Hired Gun get some use.

I get the idea behind the Agromech - beefing up your already impressive firepower - but I still think you may find the unhinged astromech more use; you're essentially a pure (if heavy) dogfighter with the BTL-A4 title, so anything which allows you to manouvre faster is probably good.

Kavil is good. I'm not sure if veteran instincts is necessarily that great - he has no real opportunity to change his manouvre, so he's essentially just buying it to shoot first. I guess it's nice to get shots into echo before she cloaks, though.

I'll be testing both Mechs for sure.

VI is on Kavel so he shoots first. :-)

Right. There's an advantage to denying information about Kavil's final position to your opponent, even if you can't leverage your own advantage by relocating as an action.

EDIT: Although with that said, there's a reason I'm seriously considering switching Kavil + VI + Blaster + R4 to Kavil + VI + Autoblaster + Unhinged + EU in my own list.

Alright, it's not much firepower, but even so...the resulting fighter is ridiculously agile for a y-wing.

Kavil + Autoblaster Turret is actually pretty acceptable firepower, as long as you can get into range. That's the bit that worries me, actually.

But yeah, Y-wings with R2 Astromech or Unhinged Astromech and Engine Upgrade are actually pretty maneuverable on any standard, not just for a Y-wing. The problem is making sure they can still contribute offensively, and either the title or Kavil's pilot ability solves that.

Kavil is absolutely terrible. His ability vs the cost to field him is a waste of points, especially when facing Autothrusters.

I am changing him to be another Hog and seeing what else I can do with spare points.

His ability costs 1 point, and it gives him a relatively large, action-independent attack boost. With an Autoblaster, he doesn't particularly care about Autothrusters; with a Blaster Turret + R4 Agromech, he has a better chance of hitting a ship with Autothrusters than anything except a YT-2400 with a Heavy Laser Cannon and the Outrider title.

He may not turn out to be a metagame favorite, but he's certainly not terrible.

I should qualify my statement. He is terrible in this config. He isn't maneuverable enough and cannot withstand the fire he attracts. The bomb was wasted entirely.

I think he becomes better as

Kavil (24), Predator (3), Autoblaster Turret (2), Unhinged Mech (1), Engine Upgrade (4) = 34

Really? I've found Kavil amazingly effective at 31 points. VI, blaster turret and R4 agromech. He's a beast.
