Upgrade/Pilot Card Storage and Transport

By cody campbell, in X-Wing

Topic says it all! How do you guys keep your cards safe and organized? I use an ultra pro 4-card binder...pilot cards upright and upgrades doubled up sideways in one slot. However, with S&V, I'm out of space and need to upgrade.

There's always the 9 slot binder, but I'm interested in alternatives.

What do you guys think?

I have a plain 1" 3 ring binder that you can buy for a few dollars (hindsite says to get the 1.5" or even 2" one). For the cards I use the standard 9-slot sheet that slides in from the top. I have a section for each faction and have the cards organized by ship group, with each group arranged by PS rating.

For the smaller upgrade cards I use a 20 slot coin collection sheet. Each slot is 2x2. Just big enough to hold the card with about 3/8" sticking out the top.

As I've gotten more ships, and added Scum, I just buy single sheets as I need them and put them in the binder.

I have two of the 9-slot binders and am quite happy with them. Pilot cards for Rebel and Imperial go in one of them, and the other stores upgrade cards in the inner two rows and Scum pilot cards in the outer rows (as the upgrades fall out of the outer rows when it's stored on its spine). I've started restricting how much of each upgrade card I store, but there's still a heap of leftover space, especially for the pilots.

I use Plano trays for the small upgrade cards. Each upgrade type is separated into different compartments. For pilot cards I have a smaller plano tray for each faction that has separate compartments for unique and generic pilots and then some smaller compartments for that faction's specific upgrades (salvaged astromechs or faction specific crew).

I have 2x UltraPro 9 binders.

One for Rebel card + upgrade cards and one for Empire + S&V Cards

Nicely organized by ship and upgrade types

I use a regular old binder. 9 slot card holders for pilots and 10 slot business card pages for upgrade cards.

I keep my pilots in separate UltraPro deck boxes for each faction. They're organized by type and pilot skill. Upgrades are in a 4-slot UltraPro binder.

I use two Ultra Pro 4-card binders: one for the pilots, and one for the upgrade cards.

Here's a shot of the upgrade binder. I put 2 upgrade cards in each side loading pocket.

I used Avery self adhesive index tabs (#16230) to make it easier to locate upgrade type or the right faction pilot.

I went with the Ultra Pro 4 because they can both fit in the top section of my Plano 1374.

One of the guys at my FLGS took that Ultra Pro side-loading binder to the next level: he used an iron to divide each pocket in half. The end result is the perfect size to hold upgrade cards.

I'm currently using the FFG "Imperial Aces" card box for my pilot cards, though S&V is pushing it fairly close to maximum capacity. I have a second box from the summer (the "Falcon" variant) which currently holds my duplicate unique pilots and rule cards. It will probably turn into my "Scum" box once I need to expand.

My upgrade cards are currently stored sideways in the corner bins of a Plano 3700 tray. I have them sorted by type, then subtype. A lot easier to keep organized and alphabetized than a binder, especially since I'd drive myself nuts re-sorting them with every expansion.

But that's half the "fun" ;)

Haha, it think it's funny that hardly anyone uses the card boxes for their intended purpose. I use mine to transport my squad (usually 3-4 ships + upgrades) during tournies, but have an extra that keeps all my alt art cards safe.

I'm leaning toward a standard 1" binder, I think. The simplicity (and price) makes it easier to customize as well. The only issue is bulk, and those Ultra Pro books are so cool......oh man, I don't know!!

Analysis Paralysis!!! Arrggghh!!1

I wish I had a picture...

I use the cardboard deckboxes. I have every rebel ship in a rebel box with divider tabs on rules cards so I can sort the ships by type.

While I like the ultra pros for MTG, I really prefer the "Monster Binder" brand. They're more expensive, and also slightly smaller card pocket size so things don't shift around as much. I'm still only using 1 20page, 9 slot per page binder even with all my Scum! But I do keep epic stuff in another 4-pocket binder.

I use some of the smaller zip-loc style baggies that came with various expansions, and I've got each "type" of upgrade (EPTs, torpedoes, my paltry two illicits, etc) in a separate baggie. All the baggies are heaped into one of the big zip-loc style bags that held the cardboard, etc, from some expansion, and the whole mess is just tossed in the upper deck of my Plano case.

I have a 5star zippered binder filled with ultrapro x9 pocket card pages. The only thing i would change about my setup is if i could find american mini pages.

(I have alot of cards)
