All of them! (given by how they're frequently the first thing my opponents target. I think Xizor tricked them into believing that Y-wings are made of bacon, hence why they never shoot at him first...)

just trying to point out that there are better ways to put stuff like this out there than "you are all wrong and I'm the best because I know this one little piece of trivia that no one cares about so you should all be like me now". which is exactly what these PSA threads are about. There is a reason there is the stereotype of the nerd that no one likes because he always has to remind everyone of how "technically its like this, look how smart I am for knowing that when you all didn't". but hey, if you really want to be that guy go for it. When I read the first post, I did not get that impression at all. For me, it was more like, "Hey guys! I know you love Star Wars and I do too, but did you know X? I just want to share X with you because I thought you might appreciate it."

And you know what? I did appreciate it and I'm glad he posted. So if you have a problem with this thread, then maybe it wasn't written for you and you should just leave it alone. Not that you're not welcome here ... I'm just saying you may be making this thread into something it's not.

I was wondering when the next nerd fight would break out on the forums. We go like, what, A week and a half without a release and it turns into Lord of the Flies on the boards.

1. Post a topic about something that annoys you individually.

2. Responses resort to some form of bacon.

3. Total anarchy on the forum page as threads that may have served a specific purpose for the advancement of fun or competition are overshadowed by copycat threads.

The disagreeing responses were polite and civil disagreement rather than aggressive, I thought. You're the only one actually slinging insults.

Personally I think the far more socially unacceptable action is to try to derail a thread (not the same as making bacon or breakfast jokes) you dislike when you could literally just not open it. Sadly you do get people who think that every thread and topic on a forum they have to personally like and that ones they don't see the point in or are tired of must be silenced.

To avoid derailing another thread with this, and in the vein of previous such threads such as this one from the esteemed Vorpal Sword ( https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/index.php?/topic/132840-psa-there-is-no-pilot-named-chippy/ ), I present the following Public Service Announcement.

I've noticed the new BTL-A4 Y-wing title being abbreviated to BTL Y-wing quite a lot. That's fair enough, it's quicker than typing out the full BTL-A4 Y-wing. Except for one little problem.

All Y-wings are BTLs.

All the ships in Star Wars have fancy designations beyond their common name.

The Corellian Corvette or Blockade Runner is the CR90 Corvette, the Falcon is a YT-1300, Slave 1 is a Firespray-31, all TIEs have TIE/xx designations. TIE/ln, TIE/in, TIE/sa, TIE/ad, TIE/ph TIE/d, TIE/x1...

Rebel starfighter-wise:

X-wings are T-65 "X-wing" Space Superiority Starfighters.

A-wings are RZ-1 "A-wing" Interceptors.

B-wings have the rarely used A/SF-01 "B-wing" Starfighter.

The E-wing is the E-7 Escort Starfighter.

The Y-wing is the BTL Y-wing Starfighter.

BTL means Y-wing. There are three main variants. The BTL-B is the Clone Wars one. The BTL-S3 is the one with a turret gunner, used at the Battle of Endor. The BTL-A4 is a one seater variant. It locks the turret forward and can fire-link it with its laser cannons. Sound familiar?

Referring to a BTL-A4 as a BTL (to contrast "Y-wing") is like calling a Z-95 Headhunter a Headhunter to distinguish it from a Z-95. It's not actually differentiating it from the basic Y-wing because BTL and Y-wing are synonyms. If the firelinked Y-wing is a BTL then that suggests the normal Y-wing is not a BTL. (It's by elimination and by mechanics a BTL-S3.) It bears the implication that the "Warthog Y-wing" is set apart from the turreted variant by being a BTL.

It's not even much of a shortcut. BTL Y-wing is thirteen characters long, BTL-A4 Y-wing is sixteen. And if you've got to abbreviate it, A4 Y-wing is even shorter. If you don't care about theme much (and therefore don't care what a Y-wing's letter designation is) then the popular "Warthog" is even shorter.

We've got two Y-wings ingame, the firelinked Y-wing and turreted Y-wing. They're both BTLs.

Every Y-Wing in the Fantasy Flight Games X-Wing game is a BTL-A4 Y-Wing based only on material printed by FFG.

I made a list November 28th 2014, its in my likes section, 4th page. It shows the full names for most ships as well as consumables and hyperspace class and so on.

A4s can lock their cannons in any direction other than forward.

Since we're delving into EU-based nitpickery, I'd like to point out that just using 'BTL' to refer to the Y-Wing isn't specific enough, as it shared that designation with the K-Wing (BTL-S8).

Maybe 'BTL' is just a Koensayr internal designation for the general type of starfighter (Bomber Torpedo Light?)

Blasted Time Lords. Y-Wings are Time Lords craft of choice when not time traveling. The company that makes Y-Wings dont care for Time Lords because of the money they use to pay them, its legal but because of taxes they loses out on a chunk of money they would have gotten if someone from the SW universe bought one. So as a in company joke they labeled them BTL XX = Blasted Time Lords.

The fluff text on the GSP mentions the BTL-A4. That doesn't contradict what I wrote. As far as I know, there are no other BTL designations other than "BTL-A4" used in the context of this game.

My nitpicky thing is referring to Y-wings as GSPs. It makes sense in this context since you were replying to a poster that said gold squadron pilot, but I see it fairly regularly. Considering the generics are Gold and Gray, GSP tells us not enough.

The menu might say that it contains one pound of crispy bacon but on my TV it look like it contains a pound of "The Thing from another world." It looks like its about to stray pulsating it tentacles around spraying purple goo at people and then have a warped demon dog head pop out from underneath that bread.
