Converting d6-d20-SAGA adventures to EotE

By RusakRakesh, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Update: I have decided to go with converting gear for now, check out the community doc and contribute! https://docs.google.com/document/d/1CitE_MW5yLxsZC-aFUxqRxQKknelkbXsh7gGSlyqHOg/edit?usp=sharing

If anyone is up for the challenge, I am willing to build a team and maybe even republish this. Could be a great community project. There are a lot of stat aces here, and we could definitely wrangle some map and token designers :)

Applies to encounter modules as well!

I'm happy to throw my 2-wupiupi in, though I have no experience before Saga.

I am currently converting "The Betrayal of Revan" to SWRPG. It would be pretty deadly if I did a straight conversion so I am trying to do it in phases.

Phase 1: Do a straight "close approximation" approach.

Phase 2: Remove unnecessary combat encounters or NPCs where necessary.

Phase 3: Determine if FFG Star Wars specific rules would better apply compared to the mechanics of old material (such as Squad(ron)s, Obligation/Duty/Conflict, etc...)

I have the NPCs and ships already converted, now I am going through the adventure and determine possible skill difficulties as well as threat/advantage/triumph/despair charts.

Edit: I'll most likely post it when I am done. I just need to decide if I plan on posting it before I tweak it to better suit my group, or after).

Let me know if you need help in the graphic department , and good luck!

Would very much like if you could share an example of conversion and reasoning...

I am definitely interested in it and will be willing to help out as I can. I have been looking into converting different things over.

To be honest, I don't have a very methodical approach to my conversion. But I'll try to explain my general process:

  1. Find the closest Original trilogy SWSE equivalent to the NPC or Ship I am converting. So if I want a Sith Trooper, I find the Saga stats for the Storm Trooper. Or If I want to convert the Dynamic Class freighter, I find the Saga stats for the YT-1300.
  2. Compare the Saga Stats of the NPC or ship to their original trilogy equivalent.
  3. Note any variances (armor, soak, speed, ability scores, defenses, ect...)
  4. Find the closes or direct FFG SWRPG equivalent and adjust those stats based on the variances between the SWSE stat blocks.
  5. Add/remote equipment and such as necessary.
  6. Tweak for balance.
  7. When I don't feel like doing the above steps, reskin the FFG equivalent and call it what it was in the adventure. (In my conversion, there's hardly a difference between a TIE/ln and a Sith Interceptor, because I need them to drop like flies.)

If I have time I'll post an example, but I am pretty laid back with my approach and just tweak where appropriate.

I've been converting The Far Orbit Project for an upcoming AoR PbP that I'm planning to run. Converting NPCs from WEG is a major P.I.T.A.

I've already run several WEG modules and have even kicked off a Darkstryder game. But then Converting WEG is pretty easy since the two systems are fairly narrative driven. Saga is the one that to me feel a bit tougher, but then my saga experience isn't as extensive as WEG.

I've been looking at and trying to start converting "Dawn of Defiance" from Saga

But I'm not a very good at the graphics end >.<

I'm not even concerning myself with graphics and design at the moment. That is beyond my skill set.

Happy to be involved with the conversion of WEG Material.

Well Ok, now we are getting to the bottom of this! Because that's what I thought is "in" on in this forums... stats and rules... but Kaosoe , we indeed agree that its all about story, what you call the units and so forth. A not about who has the better stat block... :)

However, I think it would make an easy transition to old school RPGers who just want to roleplay what they always roleplayed, just in the new more fun and narrative, less crunchy system. I whole-heartily agree with you about EotE needs to be our "ruler" to conversion, relaying on the contened already placed for us by EotE developers.

Moreover, I saw alot of content in the old school eras books (which is probably used by FFG as we speak for new content. See Nal Hutta and Fly Casual items in old splat books), like gear and mods, droids, and droid mods, etc. I would gladly concentrate on them first.

Let me in on the graphics boat! :P

Where's that slave driver at, yo...?

Trying to figure out what I need to move where for the Adventure, since in the Saga edition most of the battle info was in the back and the main info up front where the story was. I have some idea of where I can put things just the idea of putting it on a EotE page I just can't figure out atm

Episode starcture is the bread and butter of a good adventure book. I would refer to the styles already presented in the FFG matirial. Both GM kits have a very good structure to them, and the setting books encounter chapters also have stright forward approch.

I have decided to begin with gear converting, as FFG already convert some of the cooler stuff for its source books.

Should I set up a google doc for shared work on the convert or make a new post for a community effort?

I would like to start with "Galadinium's Fantastic Technology", it has the most varied gear, and FFG already took at least 5 items from there....

OK...so would it be easier just to give people tasks?

I don't know anything about business marketing, but FFG must have a fairly impressive publication budget, considering all the product they put out with high production quality. I'm a bit surprised they haven't gone about purchasing some of the old West End stuff, or if that's a thing they can even do.

I have fond memories of the Darkstryder campaign and "Goroth, Slave of the Empire", from the D6 game and would certainly like them to make a comeback.

Considering some content is already published from the old school, they probably have already some rights to that material.

Many thanks for our first contributor, Adam Bredt!

Looking for more contributors, as I have less time this coming month....
