Any one use RPtools with SW :EOE framework for their games?

Hello,

Does any one use the RPtools with the EOE Framework for their games??? Apparently it has a Dice Roller function built in to allow Online play outside of the two popular ones with Roll 20 map features.

I'm looking for an alternative to Roll20 and Google hangouts that will allow for map sharing and other features.

Currently we use Google hangouts but i am always looking for something better.

I don't use Roll20 for running games since i cant use the dice roller.

Back in the day, I created my own MapTool D&D 4e framework and ran my game for several years using MapTool. There's at least one EotE framework available for MapTool. You can find out about it here:

Since its a stand-alone product, MapTool does give you full control over what you're doing, and you can customize your framework, or create your own, to do exactly what you want it to do. The downside is that you need to understand how to use their scripting functions, which has a big learning curve (MapTool 1.3 uses their own scripting language; 1.4 will apparently use JavaScript). Just plugging in an existing framework and using it will work fine, but you need to keep in mind that all frameworks are fan-made and not always bug free :)

From my own experience with MapTool, I would probably say that it's not for the masses. Roll20 will probably be much easier to get up and running than MapTool. Also, MapTool requires that everyone have a copy of it installed; it's not web-accessible. However, if you don't mind the hurdles, if you have the technical expertise to handle the project, and if you want full control over every aspect of your gaming experience, MapTool is a great program.

Are you aware that you can launch Roll20 into Hangouts, and that Hangouts has a free die roller app available?

This way you can use the free Roll20 to share maps, and use the Hangouts app for dice.

As for MapTool, I have used it in the past, and it's still one of the best VTTs I've found for handling maps. Even being outdated and without any development for many years now, Roll20 is just now catching up to it on dynamic lighting and fog of war (and it still has much to learn). However, Roll20 is vary far ahead of MapTool when it comes to pretty much everything else, once you factor in Mentor status.

The problem I had with MapTool is that it requires setup, and although I had no problems with it, many of my players simply can't handle anything that requires any kind of setup. One even refuses to install Java on his computer because of the security issues. So MapTool is out for my group.
