You fluffy-looking nerf herder (House Rule)

By MtnWook, in X-Wing

Greetings..

We are now trying a House Rule to include all Smugglers in our Scum lists at our basement testing facility. The basics is that any smuggler can run in a Scum list as long as you don't take any Rebel Only upgrades.

It's big, it's Turrety...it's FLUFFY! (plus, think of the Missions. Oh, those smuggling Missions)

I would greatly value the Forums opinions and can anyone find any balance issues with this that might really swing it one way or the other? We haven't run into any yet but we have only played this Rule a few games and with Han but not Dash.

We came up with this purely for Fluff reasons and Mission Fun, but it makes sense to us as the timeline is quite nebulous with some of the releases FFG has thought up. Why wouldn't Han be going against some Imps with his Scummy friends (he IS a Scoundrel after all)?

Any feedback is welcome and appreciated. Fly Casual, my friends!

Sorry wrong post.

I like the idea. Some of those Rebs started as smugglers, etc. But then Han also had a bounty on his head. Which leads me to a thought(that's probably already been posted about).

What if you did a round of Bounty Hunters vs. Smugglers? Again just a Fluff game.

I just can't picture Han flying alongside Boba and working together.

Both Boba and Han worked for Jaba right up until Episode IV.

At the highest level, an IRS Auditor and a navy SEAL both work for the same guy, but I doubt you'd ever see them working together.

Seems interesting. All of the YT pilots were smugglers or mercenaries OR their sidekicks at some point, it would make sense for them to star in the Scum faction.

However, maybe it would be cool if you reversed some of their pilot abilities in order to keep them from being so blandly similar to rebels?

Han Solo: Once per round, when you are declared the target of an attack, after your opponent rolls attack dice, you may choose all attack dice. Your opponent must reroll all of their dice.

Lando Calrissian: When a friendly ship at range 1 performs a green maneuver, you may perform a free action.

Eaden Vrill: If you are stressed, you may roll 1 additional defense die.

That's all I can really think of. Or if you had something different in mind. Either way, your idea makes for some great scenarios!

Hey, that's a great idea...thanks. It did feel a little funky to have the same buffs.

Honestly, I prefer to just add the YT's to the fray versus add Han and crew but folks are going to go for the big names too.

Now, some named smugglers and various low lifes might be a fun idea. I could come up with a few mid-level pilots. Thanks for that one too!

Now that kinda makes me wonder. No new dials needed, just a few bases...Does anyone think FFG might add the YT's as a turret for the Scum with some other pilots?

Edit: Beer.

Lando Calrissian: When a friendly ship at range 1 performs a green maneuver, you may perform a free action.

That one is a little broken. Imagine Scumm Lando flying with a mini swarm of Prototype A-wing pilots (or well, Scyks I guess, since it's Scumm we're talking about). :S

Perhaps something like "when you reveal your maneuver dial, you may remove a focus token from another friendly shop at range 1. If you do, treat your chosen maneuver as green for this round."

It fits Lando in episode V with his whole "throw my friends under the bus to save myself" thing.

You do realize that rule will allow Greedo and Han on the same ship....

Then they will shoot AT THE SAME TIME!

Can't say I like the Dash Xizor pairing this would allow.

Biggs with SD + R2-F2 + EI paired with Leachos and Bodyguard.

Yeah its a 51 point combo, but good luck killing him. He'll have 5 green dice range 1-2 with a focus to modify, and 6 at range 3!

AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGH!

Wait...wait. That gives me an Idea.

What's your Nerf, Buddy? (60 minute Timed Mission with Solo variant)

Han and Greedo are paired up to retrieve a dumped Spice shipment near Nar Shadda under Jabba's orders. Knowing the bad blood between these two, this is going to be a bumpy ride...

Goal: Retrieve 3 randomly placed Cargo Containers dumped after an Imperial Customs boarding. (Standard mission cargo rule)

Setup: 60 pts - Smuggler must run a YT with Han and Greedo as crew (ok ok, or a Firespray without the H), Imperial has to run TIE's. 3x3, standard 6 asteroids, 3 cargo container tokens.

Scenario Special Rules: Every action phase you must roll an Attack Die. On the event of a crit, you MUST use Greedo's action.

Solo Variant: Use AI to control Smuggler (easier with a single ship targeting the containers)

Hmmmmm, I'm going to play this today and write it up if it seems as fun as it sounds. Thanks for your input so far everyone, more to come....

The Han ability seems a little strong as it completely negates TL/Predator/Lone Wolf for one attacker. It is like having an R7 astromech without even needing to have/spend your own target lock.

In the extra scene from episode IV Boba Fett is following Jaba around acting like muscle. That is pretty much what he does in Jedi as well. Both Han and Boba fly ships. I think they had a little more contact than a SEAL and a IRS Auditor.

I agree with GiraffeandZebra, we played last night with this variant and felt it was too powerful. We changed it up a bit Fluff-wise and made Han a PS 6 while changing his ability:

Han Solo, PS 6

"A Few Maneuvers" - Your Action Bar gains the Boost Action. We didn't want to buff up his attack but wanted to represent his younger reflexes.

We also started monkeying around with Lando with SpikeSpiegel and Herowannabe's suggestions...How about these?

Lando, PS 7

"Pure Sabbac" - At the beginning of your Action Phase you may choose to roll one Evade Die. You must guess if Evade shows or not. If you are correct you gain two actions this phase, if not, you lose your action.

OR

"Idiot's Array" - You may "steal" an action available to you on your action bar from any ship at range 1-2 and receive a stress. The ship loses that action this phase and allied ships gain a stress as well.

Edited after a playtest for Idiot's Array, didn't really like it.
