Not a new faction thread, but a trend noticing thread.

By KILODEN, in X-Wing

within the scum faction, there are specific titles for the ships,

Black Sun, so and so

mercenary or hired gun

Syndicate thug

so my question is, is there a possibility we may see factions within the scum faction in the future? or am I just over thinking this?

You're overthinking it. There won't be sub-factions in Scum any more then the Rookies or Golds are going to split off from the Rebels.

If you are talking about build types they are not a faction but a meta strategy regarding similar characteristics between competitive squadron lists.

Cross game example an Armored Company doesn't make the list not an Imperial Guard list. It just means the list involves more vehicles when traditional IG lists depend on mass infantry. Moving back to more of an X-wing comparison to those who may not understand the reference a Tie Swarm list is not a different faction from a ""Veteran Whisper" list. Both are considered Imperial factions even though both list are built differently and play completely different from each other when fielding these lists.

Now if you are talking about meta lists so far the dual aggressor seems to be the popular one but that is to be expected sort of.

If you are talking about the different canonotacal factions that exists within the S&V faction such as Black Sun Syndicate and the Hutt Cartel the S&V faction was made to incorporate all such possible belligerents that were not Imperial or Rebel but still remain a somewhat significant presence within the universe. A neutral faction that is more of a "not necessarily an enemy, but absolutely not a friend" group of people.

I can't wait for Thugs vs Punks games!

marinealver:

that's what I was thinking, perhaps there will be in the future, for epic or other game types, bonuses for building your squads with certain ships.

If any of you remember EPIC scale in 40k? you purchased a unit formation, the formation gave you certain units you could choose from and granted some kind of game effect for having purchased that formation.

I think that would be a really cool addition to the non-standard game play in X-wing

within the scum faction, there are specific titles for the ships,

Syndicate thug

It's just fluff text.

Nothing stopping you from doing paint schemes that highlight this so that when you and a friend go at it for fun, you've got Black Sun and she's got the Zann Consortium. Then you'd have your gang war in space. If you do it though, take pics. I'd love to see a Zann Consortium paint scheme and a whole bunch of black-sun themed ships beyond the Z-95.

sorry, my painting skills are lacking, that was one of the attractions of this game.

I have an ORK army in 40k I started back in rogue trader days, it was over 12000 points strong when I stopped playing and maybe half were painted, and that was commissioned stuff.

I suck at painting too, fortunately people take commissions.

Themed lists doesn't seem that farfetched. Similar to Warmachine, getting bonus points if you have everything from a certain group. Buy 4 Black Sun ships, get 1 free.

It's certainly another way to add more flavor to the game without adding more ships and upgrade options.

I'm going to do a themed list with Kath and her Gang,

I've been thinking that there might be some kind of strength to sub-faction pairings. Dual IG-2000s are obvious, but there's also 4-5 Scyks, 4 Warthogs, and I haven't decided which I like a better with my StarViper, a Black Sun Soldier or a Binatre Pirate mini swarm.

From the announcement, I've always been somewhat perturbed by the Scum faction. It represents all these different people and factions, but not anyone in particular. Leads to some pretty funky pairing, at least from a fluff perspective. Whatever, it's here and if you just trash the fluff aspect of the game with these guys, they work great mechanically.

Having an incentive (and additional pilots, of course) to "faction up" would be a bonus for me. It would help me get more into Scum, maybe convince me to finally look up Serrissu (Serri-who?!?!)

I think it would be awesome if they did create the sort of incentive, cody's talking about. I'd be on board, but I don't see it happening. :(

While I like the pilot cards, I view them more as ability cards, because I plan to paint all my scum ships in my own squadron for my own devices. That way my imagination can run wild, without being tied to EU characters necessarily.
