S&V: resurgence of the double Firesprays!?!

By Plainsman, in X-Wing

Will we start seeing a lot of Double Firesprays again along with help in the form of a third ship like a Black Sun Soldier?

It looks like a lot of potentially good builds!

I've been running dual firesprays for quite awhile with scum now (without support). Very strong squad, and very fun as well.

strong for the current meta anyways. 2 ship builds always make me nervous, personally

How well do you think a 12-13 pt ship would do as far as helping the build vs. loading them up with that many more pts worth of upgrades?

meh. Double Aggressors are far more frightening, imo.

I have seen Nothing but squishyness out of the agressor. It's kinda disappointing really

sounds like you're doing something wrong :P

even their base stat-line is the most defensively potent one in the entire X-wing line-up, and that's before we get the focus/evade/auto-thrusters going

Hel-Nah!

Triple Firesprays, with at least three Y's, six Z's, six Scyks, and three Vipers!

Now you got a game worth playing...

:D

I bought a second Firespray recently, but I intend to run it Imperial.

I love the scum Firesprays. Their abilities are so much better!
But the Aggressor is king. For one point more you get an extra evade, different and still very nice abilities, especially when run in pairs, and, IMO, a much better (if not at least trickier) dial.

However! One woman in our playgroup is a huge Firespray lover, and while she's determined to run triples as Imps, I'm betting she'll turn to the Scum side once in a while.

The only thing that has me excited about ScumSprays is that I can run 6 of them with RecSpec, HLC and Predator in a 300 point game.

Now, owning 6 of them will be the real challenge.

You should try PTL + K4's. And Green them towards your targets.

It will be a beautiful day when I roll 24 attack dice with rerolls at some poor sucker's Tantive or Raider.

Oh, the money.

But variety is nice. Unless you're advocating for a copy-paste meta again?

For my part, I never really liked 2 ship builds. I might try it for the fun of it but I don't see me bringing it to a tournament. I'm sure we'll see it appear here and there in tournaments and it will perform well.

I have no experience with flying them myself but played against 2 different guys both using IG88C for the boost evade and even then the fickle dice were not kind.

The Scyk that gives you an evade token for not being hit is a far greater pain.

I've played only a couple of games with each, but I have to say I think Firesprays are stronger than Aggressors. The problem is that you can't fit in a third ship as easily with Firesprays due to having to spend 8 points on Engine Upgrades. The Aggressor having a native boost is *really* strong not only because it saves you 4pts each, but because it lets you take another mod such as Autothrusters, which lets you chase down and eat Decimators all day long. Against small based ships I think the 'Sprays are better though.

There are certainly some serious Scum Firespray builds. Kath is a real beast when kitted out properly and Boba can hang tough with most things now. A wing mate with Bodyguard can really make them hard as nails and this can be a nice job for an Aggressor with a Firespray. Although another Firespray is better as it can take Recon Spec for the needed focus token.

Palob in his HWK can also be a good Bodyguard candidate as he can beef himself up with his ability as well as helping the Firespray and still leave room for a couple of cheap fighters.

Kath can be made to throw lots of very accurate dice with a scum build and the Mando Mercs are a significant improvement over the base PS3 Imp version. (although you can't now field 3 of them).

I'm not sure we'll see a ton of dual Firespray lists, but tough singles with support ships I think we'll see for sure.

The problem is that you can't fit in a third ship as easily with Firesprays due to having to spend 8 points on Engine Upgrades.

Why do you have to spend 8 points on Engine Upgrades?

I've been having a lot of success with this list:

Boba Fett + vet instincts + recon spec + engine up + inertial damp

Kath + predator + recon spec + engine up + ion cannon + inertial damp

The problem is that you can't fit in a third ship as easily with Firesprays due to having to spend 8 points on Engine Upgrades.

Why do you have to spend 8 points on Engine Upgrades?

Because if you're moving at PS7-10 then being able to arc dodge is pretty important, especially since you have a rear arc to shoot with. It also means you can turn 135 degrees in one go without stress.

Variety is absolutely key, but I never said anything about wanting them to show up in droves. All I've said is that they're more frightening than double firespray. I don't control that fact, FFG does :P

It's out of my hands that people will most likely flock to them. But, on the other hand, they're not the easy wins that turrets are. They have an incredibly high skill requirement to use effectively. Problem is we have plenty of skilled players in my local area :(

Now I personally didn't even buy a single box even just for the upgrades. Xizor all the way, baby :D

They're definitely good. Even the Imperial versions have improved because of the new cannon options - which support Kath and Krassus' abilities well.

I have the following list I really want to try out.

Kath Scarlet (55)
Expose, Heavy Laser Cannon, K4 Security Droid, Experimental Interface
Mandalorian Mercenary (44)
“Mangler” Cannon, Recon Specialist, Bodyguard

They're definitely good. Even the Imperial versions have improved because of the new cannon options - which support Kath and Krassus' abilities well.

Even with the Mangler Cannon available, Krassis got the short end of the stick in Wave 6. The Mando Merc is can do almost the same thing, but is better and cheaper.

Mando Merc with Predator is 2 points cheaper than Krassis with a Mangler and has the same PS, gets rerolls out of the rear arc, gets better rerolls against low PS targets, and gets an extra die at range 1. The trade off is that the Mando Merc gives a defense bonus at range three from the front arc, and gives up the option to turn a hit into a crit in the front arc.

2 Firespray + 1 Support isn't a bad archetype for Scum. I think imp version with Fel + 2 BH might be better, since you have an awesome end game ship. Scum just can't fit that same level of ship in with 2 Firesprays. The squad more becomes Fett and Kath with minimal upgrades and a single Z95, which isn't horrid, but just not the same! Haha. I suppose you can run a Fast Boba + Mandel + Z95 without much pain. Or the 2 x Mandel Merc + Predator and Mux, which isn't a bad squad. It must be the imp player in me that really enjoys having an arc dodgey ship in the mix.

Only thing I haven't explored on Scum is Expert Handling on the Firesprays.
