Stupid Finn question.

By seang2, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Playing my first IH game (just IH and core):

Does Finn get the $10 from the bank loan he starts with?

I also drew 'Evidence Destroyed' as my starting Mythos card... this is going to be a long game ;)

No, he's already received the money. (And bought things with it before even leaving the bank, believe it or not.)

Right, so he needs to repay the note. That's what I thought.

Or not

And if he does not have money to pay the loan, does he lose his itens?

Nope. If he defaults, the only consequence is that he can't take out a second loan.

And your game score is one less for a defaulted or unpaid loan.

The way the loan card reads, he can just not pay. He doesn't have to be out of money.

Really really cheesy. Or maybe it's the intention (I kind of think it is). He's a bootlegger after all.

"Upkeep: Roll a die. On a 1-3, pay $1 or discard all of your items along with this card..."

Yeah I thought it was a little silly to even bother him having it, but it does provide a minus to game score it you default, maybe that's a way of balancing out his broken-ness?

Finn was kinda fun to have, I kept forgetting about his slippery movement though. He had a dark cloak and the stealth skill so he was my Innsmouth hunter; running around up there killing monsters, closing gates and stocking the Fed Raid meter since he could evade everything and easily pass the martial law check. In the end he was the first devoured by Nygotha (everyone else was blessed) and didn't do much before hand.

So far I really like the expansion, going to try another game tonight with different investigators and GOO

Okay, let's add to stupid Finn questions, here. Can he use his slippery movement to escape from jail (Innsmouth or regular)? He was arrested last night, and although the question didn't come up (drew hex and co. instead), I wondered if he could use it to slip out of his jail cell. It seemed to me like exactly the thing the ability could be used for, and very flavorful. For that matter, can he move like a moon monster when he is delayed? I would err on the side of yes for both, but there is no clarification I can find about the ability or the state of arrested or delayed that deals with this particular issue.

I thought I would post this here first, but when I come back, I'll move it to the FAQ.

Still haven't see Finn in a game (or Zoe, Skids or Tommy), but I probably won't let him slide if he's delayed (unless it get okay'd by KW).

$.02:

I would say "No" to the jail thing, even though it seems thematically perfect, because when you're in jail you're in the small white space off of the police station and that space doesn't have directional arrows indicating monster movement. I'd say the same for being LiTaS or in another world.

As for being delayed? I'm really not sure. Are monsters moved by a mystical current that draws them along a path? If that's the case then sure I'd say move him along the path, but leave him laying down; so he's delayed just in a different location. If it's just a model of the random and meaningless way the abombinations of the Mythos self-motivate, than I think he shouldn't get to move.

I think being delayed basically means that you don't get a movement phase. Since the slippery movement occurs during the mythos phase, it wouldn't be affected by being delayed. I agree with seang that you would move but remain delayed.

I think this question's been resolved already, but just pointing out that if Finn didn't start with a bank loan, he'd essentially start the game with another "free" $10, since he never has to lose items as a result of defaulting.

I didn't even think of that until I saw it pointed out on a thread at BGG.

I'm a bad power-gamer ;)
