This was my version of YS mill for Can nats, and probably one of my favourite decks ever, only losing to Jon Herr x2 that day. It's funny how 3 cards in this deck are banned now. And I've been annoying my freinds with this deck for months before the event. Again, although this deck is obselete, The memories it brings were fun. Man, some of the games were so NPC for my opponents that I felt bad, lol.
Here is my decklist
1x .:Yun-Seong:.
4x Vast Resources
4x Experienced Combatant
4x Blood Runs True
3x Revitalize
4x No Memories

3x Cutting Edge
3x Curse Broken
4x Amy's Assistance
4x Blind Stance
3x Contemplation

4x Military Rank
2x Hesitation
3x Roam the World

Sideboard
3x Grapplin for Glory
2x Ryu's Shuriuken Extra
3x Tag Along
I still feel the best deck for making top 8 is mill, my only realistic bad match up for the day is Evil Ibuki which sounds bad, but I was hoping to be able to dodge the character, and even when I face Ibuki, If I go 1st I can put a highly formitable battle against her and will just lay down to get stomped on.
Round 1
Mike Chabot (Evil Mai-Stun Variation)
Match 1 I steam roll him with a combination of happy holidays and revitalize and completely mill him out by turn 4.
Match 2 He fails his 1st check and I proceed to do the same thing as above.
1-0-0
Round 2
Matt Kohls (Evil Promo Lilith/Ibuki)
Oh **** son, I'm facing a world champ. Now I'm nervous as hell, but I go 1st and am able to mill him out fairly fast. Evil Lilith seems like a 1/2 decent Ruru deck that didn't commit my character, but he was able to get around most of my defense with her and she is evil, so good deck choice if you don't wanna face diversity. The milling was an annoying side effect but that kind of made my recursion better.
Game 2, He turns into Ibuki and shows me some cool tricks with Reverse Flayer and Kazumi Suzaku.
Game 3, we go into time and draw.
1-0-1
Round 3
Jon Herr (Evil Ibuki)
He rolls me game 1... This includes a suzaku turn 1 that completely had me dumbfounded. and his set up was very good. He masterfully got around my the curse lock and if I let him proceed he would have committed my whole board at the cost of committing Ibuki... which would have made my death much faster.
Game 2: I maintain board position and he conceded to make sure he had enough time to kill me in round 3.
Game 3: was a tough match, but the better player won.
1-1-1
Round 4
Keith Drake (Tri-Symbol Donavan)
Game 1: In testing keith's deck beats mine because he slows me down too much. But I was able to stick down some recursion and eventually got the comtemplations to stick and was able to start some serious milling, he conceded.
Game 2: We went to time.
2-1-1
Round 5
Micheal Little (Stun Mai I believe)
Game 1. I set up poorly, and he steamed rolled me like a mac truck. My defenses kind of suck when his chain throws are stunning for 5.
Game 2: I go into fast play mode and beat him with happy holidayz and just milled him out by turn 4-5.
He ran blinding rage, and I olcadan's mentoring him to make him thin his deck. I don't think he realize what I was doing.
Mental note: Make him use blinding rage on foundations you don't care about like bitter rivals.
Game 3. I side in 3 Grappling for glory (1st time sideboarding)
Sometimes you know you feel like a complete jerk, and this is the only match I felt this way.
I realize he has no addes syndicates so I side in my tech vs non-addes agro.
Going 2nd, My turn 1 went like this, Happy Holidayz, Blind Stance, + 2 random order defense foundations, Drop it down... blow up Blind stance. Spill 5 Void foundations.
He spills.
I draw into my combo. Drop a brt and grappling for glory with other stuff in there and begin contemplation.
His turn, I trigger grappling for glory and hack his check wiht brt. His attacks are at -5 from my check.
He tries to agro, but pointless and spills a bit.
I Happy holiday on my turn, then the following turn grapplin for glory for 5, the Happy Holidays. And finish him off that turn. I felt bad for getting 5 "free" turns against him but what else do I do?
3-1-1
Round 6 Mike Lowe - Life Xianghua/side into demetre/Ruru
I beat him game 1.
He beats me game 2.
We ended up drawing. We are from the same playgroup and a draw makes both of us not go into top 8. So we talk about who has a stronger chance to win in top 8. He wasn't feelin his deck. He concedes and lets me into top 8. Thanks Mike, I owe you a round in Gencon.. even if it's finals for world championship.
4-1-1
Round 7-Top 8
Ibuki Jon Herr
He beats me game 1, I beat him game 2.
Game 3 he finishs me with roughly around 60 points of damage. With 2 chain throws, 1 reverse flayer and 2 Kazumi suzaku's in hand... he let me know he had a third one in his hand... oh well, I can't deal with that much damage. I was ok with 50 damage, but 60 was just a little too much, especially when im only 21 vitality, and at that point i would have been completely out of resources from losing things to cutting edge. He mentioned he had a kung-fu training for my happy holidays and revitalizes...
4-2-1
Well finishing at 5th that makes me the highest ranked canadian at the nationals event...
Congrats Jon. You deserve the win, and I hope I can get your character card.
