So, is the new canon any better than the classic EU/Legends?

By HappyDaze, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

WOW, Donovan and Rogue, I apologize, if I offended either of you, after seeing what is going on with another poster here please accept my sincerest apology.

Sincerely,

Indeed. That's what no coffee, no food, early day at work combined with the internet do to you (or me at least)... when you work in bureaucracy  I'd prefer it if you linked to my inflaming post rather than my profile though, for accuracy ;)

I have learned: don't call people simpletons, they may take offence. And perhaps "simple" isn't so good either.

So learn from my mistakes, that always works

Chomp, chomp, mmmm good popcorn. Little butter and salt. Yummy! Then some good beer to wash it down. I think many people may be skipping their morning coffee ( or afternoon one or their nightcap one or whatever gets them their caffeine).

As stated before, if someone offends or irritates you, put them on ignore. If they, in your estimation, do not contribute anything helpful to the conversation, put them on ignore. There is so much that I could say or respond to but I don't because it isn't worth it. Hell considering my avatar name it is any wonder I don't, but in my old age, while I still retain my sarcasm, I have learned to pick my battles, sometimes.

I've also come to the realization that...

  • opinions are like @ssholes, everyone has them and many of the are full of crap for various reasons.
  • you never argue with an idiot as they just drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

So now I just sit back and enjoy the ride. I try not to be personally insulting, but make no claims to being perfect.

Agree with you totally Mouthy, but that guy will learn I won't bite. I was just pointing out who it was and not what he said as I think that it will force the guys that are arguing go back and look and see the confusion that was started by him ;)

Hummm you must be very smart being part of a bureaucracy, and to think that I posted your direct link instead of your inflaming post was on purpose LOL.

Oh and back to the EU. Both the upcoming Shattered Empire comic series and Star Wars: Aftermath novel will be canon information to bridge some of the gap between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.

All the threads about comics and now your post makes me want to start reading them again.

I am indeed very smart, such is the lot in life for the few of us here at the top. It's a burden, but someone has to carry it. We're trying a new concept, after the tremendous success of trickle down economics, we're now trying the same with intelligence, but most people don't seem to get it ...

I think ignoring people is rude. I prefer to believe that people want honest and direct feedback and responses to their statements, whether those statements are idiotic or intelligent. Why else would they ejaculate their opinions (or ego if you will) in public?

Of course, your two bullet-points are accurate, but hope and belief in the human project prevents me from the irresponsible act of ignoring people.

As for the quality of Legends compared to the new stuff? Isn't that a bit early to judge? I'm trying to get through New Dawn (or whatever it's called)... whether it's the book or the fact that I've read too much Star Wars stuff I don't know, but I find it to be a chore ... I am looking forward to Aftermath though!

I haven't read everything about the EU/Legends but yes a lot of the released material, but based on everything I readed I'm really happy with the reboot and that people from SW now are watching for the world "consistence".

So, just happiness and illusion to me, it's like rediscover Star Wars :D

Hey I don't ignore anyone as yet. I get much entertainment from many individuals no matter if I agree or not. It's just a suggestion.

Heh heh. My girlfriend would very much agree with this where I am concerned.

Yes, Aftermath does intrigue me. I may actually have to pick it up.

LOL your a little full of yourself aren't you, well young man, I am a retired Master Sergeant from the USAF, I have my retirement, I am not rich, but I ain't poor. Grow up, follow the advise your signature shows, Grow up a little and maybe, MAYBE I won't ignore you. LOL, Oh and another famous quote that follows what your quote in your signature block states, if you don't have anything nice to say don't say it at all. Oh and another good one is sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me. What does the last one mean? It means IGNORE Jegergryte, he ain't as cool as he thinks he is.

BTW you are ignored as of...tick...tick...tick NOW. BYE BYE

Wow... I just can't follow this anymore. What did Jegergryte do to you, exactly?

So what's the gist of the new comic and books?

Chuck Wendig is one of my favourite authors. He did a lot of the World of Darkness "between chapters" fiction...if they take the darker turn that he excels at I will be all over this...

Dante, I am not going to get into that, go back through the thread and you'll get your answer.

I did... He basically said one inflammatory thing and then said he shouldn't have and said his coffee and bureaucratic desk job might have steered him the wrong way. That, and he thought you accidently linked to his profile instead of his post.

So what's the gist of the new comic and books?

No plot details to speak of as yet. Just that they take place between RotJ and lead up to TFA.

So what's the gist of the new comic and books?

So far it seems that they are taking care in rebuilding the Universe, but at this point (what i have seen) it has not jumped out and really wow'd the Majority yet. It is hitting well with a lot of people, but that is why I believe many are holding off on Judgement vs the EU/Legends.

Like what mouthmerc already commented on we do not have enough details.

The staff is lead and mostly made up of Fanboys/girls. So the whole deal now is to Mine the best from the EU without restricting it to the EU. Which they have done with TCW and are continuing to do Rebels. I believe they are going that way we are seeing a lot different little things being incorporated or directly inspired by EU/Legends.

It's a sad day when someone has a problem with Jegergryte.

I haven't read the entire post people, but please, remember to take a deep breath before post and remember that before that cold screen there is someone that can be hurt.

According the new canon Stormtroopers were all conscripts/volunteers instead of clones by the original trilogy. I consider that an improvement.

They are both. They talk about the clone wars in the original trology.

And Star Wars.com says this: "Following the rise of the Empire, the military cloning program expanded to include new clone hosts. By the time of the Empire consolidated its power by dissolving the Senate, the ranks of the Imperial stormtroopers would include cloned infantry from multiple sources as well as birth-born conscripts and recruits from various worlds."

Wow... I just can't follow this anymore. What did Jegergryte do to you, exactly?

I'm not entirely sure, but he seems to feel offended on behalf of someone. I suspect. It's his right and he's also in his full right to recommend ignoring me. I guess my funny was lost on him, but then, errr ... no I won't make fun of ex-military, I have a feeling that might not go down well here - and it's not like that defines his whole character, but it's what he chose to highlight ... can't be as soul-sucking as working in the bureaucracy I'm sure... You guys sure love your military from what I understand (not you Dante, I know you're a liberal up-to-no-good European ;) ) Anywho. I can't be held responsible for him taking my statement about trickle down intelligence seriously.

It's a sad day when someone has a problem with Jegergryte.

I'm not sure how to take that, but err... I guess it's been peaceful here those months I was busy.

I'm kind of excited about this whole new expanded universe of books and comics. While the previous lot wasn't particularly good (literature, that is), I have little hope for this, but I'm sure I'll enjoy it as much (as long as they avoid books with comparable quality of Children of the Jedi, Crystal Star and anything Kevin J Anderson and Troy Denning), I love stories set in this galaxy.

Then you are the perfect person to ask - what would you recommend as a good indicator of his style? Ideally something reasonably standalone, absolutely ideally available on audiobook! Cheers.

I didn't go cold screen on anybody, I was having what I thought was a good discussion about Traviss and Salvatore and how some fans were perceiving them and they perceiving the fans, a bad fight in my mind was going on and I was looking back and the only name calling had been Jeger calling out names. so I called him on it trying to get the other 2 to calm down. So if I missed someone else making derogatory comments and blamed Jeger for it I apologize. Just like his cartoon showed, I have been up all night. As far as the bureaucracy is concerned, the Air Force here is full of it and I went through 23 years of it LOL. Jerger, I have also not seen your previous posts, as I have been playing EotE for only a year, I didn't know that you were joking with Kaosoe due to that fact. I hope that you will forgive me for missing the humor, I am not ex military but retired and any jokes you make about them all you want, I do. So all please accept that I made a mistake and apologize.

Now back to canon and EU/Legends, I have missed a lot because when Traviss' Republic Commandos books and TCW didn't match on what I considered as canon I stopped watching TCW and really no new books came out that interested me. TNJO, IMO sucked, were a chore to even read, and I am now playing catch up as far learning were FFG and actual canon is concerned. I am loving the game, when my son and his friends will sit down and play, which is hardly ever LOL, but playing with my military friends when they ain't working which isn't often.

Haven't been able to catch Rebels much, but I am liking it. So I read hear, I am very experienced at roll playing, Jeger, you were probably just starting taking milk from your momma when I started playing D&D Beginner Box set at the age of 11 ;) and had the greatest time being 1 U.S. citizen playing AD&D with 5 other German citizens in which only 2 spoke English at a GenCon in Frankfurt Germany, boy that brings back memories, that was the year Salvatore killed Chewie and my German friend was hotter in a snakes ass in a wagon rut. That's why I like this thread.

So please guys keep the stories coming, give advice on good books and critique the bad ones, cause I will read what you recommend.

Re: Wendig (so I don't have to quote that image again :) )

Now that I check, I haven't read his novels, I will have to do that. I just really enjoyed what he did for World of Darkness, it was really dark and creepy, and this is coming from somebody who doesn't usually enjoy the "horror" and darker genres. The writing was just that compelling.

I also liked some of the stuff he produced on the craft of writing, was very helpful for me.
