Buildings VS resources

By umkqq, in Sid Meier's Civilization: The Board Game

Hi!

Just trying to figure out.

Rulebook says :

"Once a building marker is placed on a square, the icons on the

building completely replace any icons that the square had."

No mentions about resources.

FAQ says:

Q: Can a scout gather icons and/or resources from a square

in another city’s outskirts? What if the square contains a

building or a wonder?

A:

A scout can gather resources from a square in another city’s

outskirts, even if that square contains a building or wonder. If

the scout sends those icons and resources to a different city,

the original city cannot also use those icons and resources.

So... Does building/great person/wonder remove resource (Wheat, Silk, Iron) from the tile???

Again... not icons (Trade, Culture), but resource.

And on more question...

How many troops can defend a city?

Thanks in advance!

Hey,

Scouts gather what building(not military bonuses)/wonder(culture icons, not the effect)/great person(icons only too) provide and not what is underneath. I think the main confusion is in the words icons/resources. Resource is an icon too. Focus what is on the top layer of the map and there will be no misunderstandings :)

As for combat hand size, for city it is usually 6(base 3, +3 for defending city), unless you have tech that increases it(communism gives +1, and another one - computers if i remember right 5 coins/+1 unit). You can not station flags in city (it may not end its movement in city center), however you can get +2 military bonus if you sacrifice a flag.
