Ideas from Star Wars Rebels

By gabe69velasquez, in X-Wing

I like it! I think I'd try a simplified version, though - doing a full detail version is going to be very awkward with an X-wing scale model

To be honest, I've been wanting to do repaints for a while - I think I'm definitely going to try and do a 'racing stripe' TIE fighter squadron. I like flying TIE all-stars lists, so varying the colours makes it easy to tell who's who at a glance - and which way the TIE fighter is facing.

Not that I've ever got that wrong when planning dials. Obviously. That would be something only a moron would do. Ahem.

These should be easy enough to make:

Some yellow paint and an exacto knife.

So they're missing half of their wings?

Interesting

I've posted this elsewhere, but it seems appropriate to drop it in here as well. Here's my – very simple – take on a pilot card for the repainted TIE. It's worth noting that (unless I missed something, which is possible) Sabine never actually piloted it. In fact, if I recall correctly, the only character to pilot it with that colour scheme was Kanan. So I've used Kanan's rules from the forthcoming Ghost expansion on a basic TIE.

And while I'm at it, how about Hera in the Blade Wing? I have changed around the upgrades bar for this, allowing for two cannons, so it can have both an ion cannon and a heavy laser cannon to represent the super-cannon it has in the episode. Also a crew slot, for Sabine as a gunner.

This is awesome! Well done.

I love how you are able to make custom cards like this which actually draw from the shows.

Is this a special program that you have, or can any one do this somewhere on line?

There is NO END to the fun that you can have with this if you are playing friendly games.

Can you make the templates for the bases as well?

Can't tell you how far my jaw dropped when I saw my CR-90 fly across the screen in the S1 Finale. :o FwMHL5B.jpg

That's so funny!

I (and many other fine folk on these here boards) use a program called 'Strange Eons', which you can find here . You'll need to download and install it, then download the X-Wing module for it, but it's very simple to do. :)

And yes it does base templates too (and dials, if you like)

in regards to the painted TIE and its pilots..

Zeb flew it during the Capture.

it flew on autopilot during kanan's rescue op.

Hera flew it to escape the SD after the rescue.

honestly i'd give it a crew slot since every time it appears it's wound up with passengers. Zeb and Ezra during the capture, and Hera, Zeb, and Sabin while escaping the SD.

Kanan never flew the TIE. he did however steal the Inquisitor's TIE Adv. Prototype during the escape from the star destroyer. (and had Ezra along.)

honestly, i find it interesting that Rebels has been ignoring the old EU's "TIE's have no life support!" bit, since we see Hera, Zeb, and Sabine all without spacesuits in their regualr TIE, and the inquisitor, and Kanan+Ezra, all are shown not needing space suits to fly the Inquisitor's TIE..

th

though to be honest, the idea that TIE's lack life support was kinda a silly idea to me. having a special flight suit for it? sure. (we have this IRL, and the russian flight suits used to have the all encompassing helmet thing going too) but it makes little sense to have the cockpit be in vacuum and the pilot relying on what lifesupport air tanks it can carry om his suit.

Dude, it's still a completely normal TIE Fighter. There's no reason it would have any upgrades or abilities that the normal TIE Fighter doesn't have.

I agree there's no reason they shouldn't have life support.

That said, TIE pilots wearing flight suits still makes sense, because, as they are flying ships with no shields, it's probably EXTREMELY common for the cockpit to get punctured and lose atmosphere.

Thanks for that! A few thoughts:

Zeb flew it before it was painted (and only in Lothal's atmosphere), so that rules him out from this specific card, which is the painted version.

I thought Kanan piloted it during the escape, with Ezra stuffed in there as well. I'm probably misremembering and mixing it up with the Inquisitor's TIE. It's been a while since I watched that. I'll rewatch it and adjust as required. And while it often has additional people in it, the others never really seems to be doing anything to actually crew it, as I recall.

Kanan and Ezra escaped in the inquisitors prototype. Hera, Sabine and Zeb escaped in the painted tie and Chopper had been left on the ship and went to get help.
