Checking ship overlap on an obstacle

By dhowtocor, in X-Wing Rules Questions

You only check for ship overlap on an obstacle at the end of the maneuver, not during right? This questions covers two scenarios.

Note: Edited to correct first scenario based on first answer to this question.

1) At the start of your maneuver you are on an obstacle and A) The maneuver template does not overlap the obstacle., and B) At the end of the maneuver the ship does not overlap the obstacle you started on (or another obstacle).

2) You are not on an obstacle and the maneuver template does not overlap an obstacle and your ship ends up clear of an obstacle.

Am I correct to say that in either scenario I do not suffer the effects of the obstacle.

1. if you can clear it.

2. Yup.

And thank - ehm.. the Force - for 2). It would be horrible to slide ships over the bank and turn templates to see if they overlap an obstacle in any precise manner; it's tricky enough as it is to place them correctly when bumping into other ships, but at least that doesn't occur as often as flying past some asteroid. Not only that, but large ships would struggle to fly anywhere aside from the very board edges.

1) If you start on the obstacle and move off without the template overlapping then there's no penalty. Because you were on the obstacle at the start means you should have resolved it's effects in the previous round. This round, you're just moving off it.

2) You're not on the obstacle and neither is the template when you move, then congratulations - you avoided it.
