Question about IG-2000

By gundamv, in X-Wing Rules Questions

If I use two Aggressors, and one of them dies, does the remaining Aggressor still have both pilots' abilities or only that of the live one?

I know, but that FAQ does not give a clear answer either.

I think that with games, there is usually nothing beyond text (i.e. we don't bring in fluff). IG-2000 only requires the pilot ability to be of a "friendly ship with the IG-2000 Upgrade card," without specifying whether that friendly ship has to be alive or dead or within a certain range of the other ship.

That's because there is no clear answer. We're all waiting on FFG to give us one. Have patience, padawan.

Well... There is actually a clear answer. A ship that's destroyed is removed from play, and there's no reason to think game elements in play can be affected by game elements out of play. That's what "removed from play" means, and anything else is wishful thinking.

It's definitely a frequently asked question, so it's the kind of thing we'd all like to see FFG address whenever we see the next rules update--and who knows? Maybe you have an unusually lax TO who will let you get away with it, as long as it's not explicitly forbidden. But arguing that it doesn't say "friendly ships in play with the IG-2000 title" would be like arguing that the Scum Firespray ship cards don't have the "auxiliary arc" icon, so Kath's ability doesn't work. It's sophistry, not a serious debate.
