Bounty Bros™

By Lucas McCoy, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I've been a contributing edit at bobafett.com for almost a decade now, so needless to say I am thrilled about getting to fly the new scum Boba. At first I thought maybe 3 Syck or Z-95s would compliment him, but after a few failed attempts I opted to try the other large Scum ship out, the Aggressor.

At first I tried out IG-88 C with moderate success, but B is the real ticket here. I finished 4th in a big store tournament on Saturday and had an absolutely blast flying these guys. I'm not totally sold on which illicit mods will work best with these guys, but the ones I have here have been working alright so far. I think with more practice flying these large base ships (I flew mostly swarms before this) my win/loss record could be even better!

TIE swarms haven't really been a problem so far, and matches against other large ships like Decimators and Dash worked out well for me. I have had issues with that hp-heavy BBBBZ list though. There's just not enough red dice rolling to take down THAT many (36) hit points. Also, I was beaten by double Aggressors, despite getting damage going on both. However, I think more experience flying this list would help against both of those, which may will just take practice.

Thoughts/suggestions?

Something I've had a lot of success with is similar but puts out a lot of firepower and doesn't stress either ship which is huge.. IG doesn't need a higher PS, it wasn't designed to move last, it's a well defended manueverable gunboat that just lays the boom:

Kath

VI

HLC

K4

EU

Ig88B

HLC

Autothrusters

FCS

I play this the same way I'd play a Han Leebo build as I'd send Kathy down biggest hole the asteroids provide or the nearest b-line to the heaviest opposing ship, once I'm 1 turn away from joust; engage in a 1forward for your target lock focus (if later in game, a 2 straight ahead is my most common move engages TL then boost into range 1) which leaves sooo many options , and just LTB.. lay the boom

As she LTB you'll want to bring iG in on the flank catty-corner to opponents swarm(support) ships. Once in range of opponents tank or main ship focus Fire for first two rounds only on him as your op. wants you to go after the suppor . You should make sure not to get turned around with ig as it usually spells doom..

I don't know if PtL is a great choice on a Firespray, not only because of the limited green on its dial, but also because a canny opponent will try to trap you and keep you bumping turn after turn (to deny you actions, which is where PtL shines, so taking away that strength is a smart play).

Some possible EPTs for scum boba (this is based on other people's advice, I have not actually used scum boba yet):

stay on target+outlaw tech (does not work with recon/engine upgrade though)

expert handling+gunner (does not work with recon/engine)

predator+recon or gunner (more re-rolls can't hurt?)

VI+recon or gunner (possibly seismics too?)

I'm sure there are other choices, but PtL doesn't seem to be popular from what I've seen...

I also feel that HLC is a really bad choice on IG88B. Sure its nice to have 4 attack at all ranges, but it absolutely does not work at all with his ability @ range 1. That will screw you at some point in a tourney (if not multiple times). Mangler and IG88B are BFFs. If IG88B is not in the equation, then yeah, HLC is a great choice for the others

My favorite firespray + ig build is Kath with hlc, predator, and hot shot blaster, and ig88-D with hlc. For the remaining points I've been playing with upgrades on the aggressor but a safe bet is ptl+advanced sensors.

A spicy combo I've been trying is enhanced scopes + vi, which makes you move first then also shoot first a lot of the time. It also frees up a slot for hot shot blaster on the ig, but I'm not sure if that build is good or not yet.

Honestly the bumping isn't a huge deal on the Firespray if it happens, because it denies them shooting at me and gives me rerolls. These suggestions are making me reconsider the VI on IG though. Moving first would be beneficial, but I have enjoyed being able to one-shot entire ships before they get a chance to fire on me with this list.

I don't see Mangler being the first choice for IG-88 B though because it nullifies his pilot ability if 1 crit is always going through, his native gunner-like ability is useless.

You are misreading Mangler. One hit turns into a crit is all it does, which still can get cancelled by dice and tokens. If you really want B then you can't take HLC or his gunner-like ability is TRULY useless at range 1

If I was to run a single IG2000 I would probably take IG-C for just how difficult it is to kill, then the HLC would be lots of fun.

I'm not really a fan of your Boba build. Dead man's switch and PTL seem out of place, and I'm not convinced Recon Spec is all that useful either. Would rethink your Boba

I think recon pec. is great on boba, take your reroll(s) first then use the focus, just like it's a TL + focus, but you can do the same on defense!

working really well so far. the engine upgrade gets you in range 1 for re-rolls with the pilot ability and PTL lets you take actions in addition to that. dead man's switch is for when boba dies, because he should be at range 1 when he does that
