Dawnblade Encounter 1 - Questions

By krejaton, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

We are winding down our first campaign and just finished the first encounter of our last Act II quest--Dawnblade. It was an incredible cluster of heroes and monsters in the central room. On my (the OL's) last turn before the sun hit the tomb, My ettin threw Syndrial from the tomb and climbed on it himself. My meroids then immobilized Syndrial and dropped Leoric. I moved goblins all around the ettin except where Alric was, right next to the ettin. The goblins dropped Alric and all looked ready for the final hero turn with only Jain standing and able to move. She moved into the now vacant spot, attacked and pushed my ettin one spot, jumped on the tomb, game over.

*sigh*

But a few questions arose from the game.

1) If Jain had used her last movement point to get into the square next to the tomb, pushed the ttin off but could not claim the tomb, who would have won? The victory conditions say that if the heroes are on the tomb, read this <insert ending narrative for hero victory>...otherwise, read this <insert ending narrative for OL victory>. So I assume that if the heroes are not on the tomb when the sunbeam hits, they lose, but I just wanted to make sure.

2) Throw is an action (with the curving arrow). On my last turn with the ettins, the master ettin attempted to throw Syndrial off the tomb (and was successful), but if Syndrial had passed his might roll, could I have had the master ettin try the same throw action again?

3) Can my master ettin attack a hero (roll dice) and, as his second action throw or is that considered 2 attacks?

4) A few cards state that the time to use the card is "when activating this monster". Exactly when does that card have to be played--the moment the monster is activated, during the entire process of activation, before it ends its turn?

Thanks for the help!

1) If a hero is on the tomb, heroes win. If not, OL wins.

2+3) Yes and yes, Throw is not an attack. (Were attack dice thrown, and then a defense pool thrown in response? No? Does the ability say "attack" at all? Also no? Not an attack.) The rule is not that monsters must use at least 1 action to move, it's that they cannot attack twice in the same activation- which usually results in 1 move, 1 attack.

4) When activating = during activation = the time when a given figure can be performing actions. Say you have 2 minion goblins and 1 master, and you plan to activate them in the order: minion, master, minion- you can play "Frenzy" on the master anytime after that first minion has finished his 2 actions, and before the other minion begins them (you don't need to plan your order ahead of time, I'm just using the order as an example to illustrate when the master's activation is.)
