A bit of an awkward situation

By stevensonson, in X-Wing

Me and my friend were testing his new Scum and Villainy today, as we both really wanted to test out Autoblaster Warthogs. I had the amazing trio (L B W), and it devolved into a very cuthroat game (we're normally cool with forgetting focusing etc) because Lone Wolf Luke had single-handedly chewed through the combined 12HP of a Y-wing with no shields and Stunned Pilot, a 1hp Z-95, and brought a Y-wing down to 1 hp. Luke was on 2 hull and a shield. (I hadn't flown Wedge or Biggs particularly well, because I didn't realise how hard an AutoHog can hit at range 1. That's a lesson I'm not forgetting.)

Anyway, Luke was going for a final joust with this Y-wing, I was preparing my victory dance (http://bit.ly/1r81fv2), and basically what I'm trying to say is I forgot to focus. I rolled 1 damage and a focus, tried to modify but was reminded that I had no token. I was cool with this, I had Lone Wolf, and he had stress from a K-turn, so only a 3/8 chance of evading it anyway. I rerolled from Lone Wolf, got another eye. This rubbed salt in my forgetful wounds, but it was ok, he only had a 3/8 chance of evading. He rolled an evade.

He then fired back, spending his focus to modify his dice causing him to Target Lock Luke, rolled a crit and hit for autoblaster, then rerolled the crit to get a hit, killing Luke.

****.

5 Hours later, I realised he never put any target lock down, and therefore wouldn't have been able to re-roll the crit, meaning Luke could've dodged it. Then who knows what might've happened.

Now, I just wanted to check, is it socially acceptable to ring your friend at 11pm to tell them that actually they lost a game of Plastic Spaceships? ;)

Well, if you were re-rolling eyeballs for Lone Wolf regularly, you were both doing things wrong

I'll add that with target locks you might use immediately (agromech, Vessery) it's usually acceptable to wait to put the target lock down until after it goes unused for that attack. For example, with Vessery, I've never seen an opponent put one down from his ability unless they decide NOT to use it that attack.

Nah, I rerolled one of the blanks, got another eye.

It's ok, you cheated by using Lone Wolf to reroll a focus result. You guys are even in my book.

But if you drain a bottle of Bacardi 151 then call him at 1 in the morning it would just be a real fantastic time and I am sure your friend would be so thankful. I know I would . I say go for it But for reals down the booze first it helps to really get the point across. . . :D

Story reminds me of my days playing Warhammer. In almost every game I played I thought of a rule(after it was all over) we did wrong or forgot that would have changed the outcome if we had remembered. Makes me glad to play x-wing now.

Ah, OK. Still, I don't think forgetting or not placing the TL there wasn't a big deal.
