Three phantoms at Milton Keynes store championship

By nurglez, in X-Wing Battle Reports

So I took KineticOperator's six sigma's to a store championship today, as when I had heard about it I really wanted to try it out, but lacked a 3rd phantom. I bought a 3rd 2 weeks ago and had 7 casual games with it, and really enjoyed it, so thought I'd try my luck.

Echo, veteran Instincts, sensor jammer, rebel captive and advanced cloak

2x sigma, enhanced scope, Intel agent and stygian particle accelerator

My first game was vs.scum

6 Scyk's (ps2)

1 headhunter with an ion pulse missile (ps1)

We dance around each other, then I screw up and fly a sigma through a roid, losing it to the oncoming fire. I take out a few more ships then foolishly k turn my second sigma onto a roid, losing it to long range fire. Luckily this had pulled my opponent's remaining ships out of formation, and Echo manages to clean up shop, leaving 2 scyks alive when time is called.

win

Second game vs Imperial

Kenkirk, Isard, predator, engine upgrade

Whisper, Veteran instincts, fire control system, gunner, advanced cloaking device

I cloak at the start, and rush to meet my opponent in the asteroid field (it seemed like a good idea at the time). I manage to survive fire from whisper on one of my sigmas (taking 1 hit, so didn't trigger gunner) and block a decloak, leading whisper to fly through an asteroid to get a shot. My opponent chose to shoot at an uncloaked echo, which proved whispers downfall as I made the perfect amount of evades and took 1 hit to my shields, stressing out whisper. Next turn I blocked whispers green move and put a stunned pilot crit on her with echo, only to make her crash into a sigma next turn and die. My 2 sigmas spent the whole game cloaked apart from the last turn which saw me take out Kenkirk with 2 range 1 shots. Kenkirk had taken 4 salvos of fire in total, as my dice had been on fire, and I had been blocking him most turns too.

win

third game vs imperial

Kenkirk, rebel captive, vader, predator

Rexlar, veteran instincts, mangler cannon, stealth

Due to rebel captive, I decided to try and take on Rexlar first. I managed to kill Rexlar eventually, but lost Echo. As I was 3 points ahead with 20 minutes left on the clock. I made the difficult decission to run away for 20 minutes. I didn't slow play and my opponent managed to get about 3 hits off at my sigma's, but for the loss of a few shields I managed to survive. I felt really bad about running away, but I didn't see how I would take on a mostly healthy Kenkirk with 2 sigmas, especially as he had vader.

modified win

fourth game vs rebels

4 headhunters (ps 2)

4 headhunters (ps 4)

We set up in opposite corners, and I ran the 2 sigma's down while keeping echo in my corner, more or less. First engagement saw him have one of my sigmas, cloaked with an evade, at range 3, range 3 through a roid, range 2 through a roid, and range 2. 4 2 dice attacks later and I was down a sigma as my evade dice decided to roll blanks. My next turn I ran my remaining sigma into his formation, while still cloaked, and watched him split up to try and pin me down, while Echo attacked from the flanks and slowly took down ships. My sigma played bait very well, and with 5 minutes left on the clock had lost both shields, while my opponent only had 2 headhunters left, so we decided to call it so we would have extra time to relax between games (as there was no lunch break due to time restraints)

win

Fifth game vs imperials

Rear admiral, predator, gunner, rebel captive

Patrol leader, Vader

This was the rock to my scissors, and it felt like Karma for running away in my third match. Best I could have hoped for would have been to take out his patrol leader for the loss of a ship and run away with the other two, but I failed and lost without killing anything at all.

Loss

Sixth game vs scum

Boba fett, push the limit, K4 droid, inertial dampeners and engine upgrade

2 headhunters (ps3)

2 headhunters (ps1)

I managed to draw him into the asteroids, and then attacked his headhunters with the 2 sigma, however he killed one with boba and his ps3 headhunters (as he had initiative) and got blinded pilot on my sigma so it couldnt return fire. I then managed to park echo on a roid and lost a shield, then died to boba's fire at range 3 (4 dice, all blanks). I had managed to kill a ps1 headhunter for the loss of those 2 ships, not a fair trade. I then lost my second sigma next round and that was that.

Loss

So I managed 4 wins (1 of them modified) and 2 losses with a list most people would have thought wouldn't do too well.

I certainly didn't fly it to the best of its ability, especially in the last game, which I feel I should have won, if only my own stupidity hadn't landed echo on a roid. Obviously it has its counters, Chief among them being rebel captive and turrets, but its such a fun list to fly.

final ranking, 12th out of 35. I would have won a sootir card, but they had a few spares from previous tournaments so I managed to grab an alt art Ten Nunb card, which was nice.

Yep you played very well against me (Hi I am 8 headhunter guy) lol

Yep I thought you would of made top cut at least with your list, but a bit unlucky to miss out :(

Double decimator was a hard counter. And my last game I was feeling the burn after playing so many games and made a huge mistake, which my opponent seized upon.

Most annoyed with that last turn, but I've hopefully learned from my mistakes :D

i recently ran a 3 phantom list myself a week ago in a local tourney. It went 2-1 overall, the irst & only lost was to my friend that i came to the tourney with, it was unfortunate, but my next 2 matches were 100-0 wins.

(x3) Shadow squad w/ FCS & AVD

Considered a list using 3 shadows, but I fear anything with higher ps :D I've

yea higher ps can be deadly against an uncloaked phantom, What i've been working on is keeping them at range 3 and dodging arcs, i target the opponent highest ship first and sneak my phantoms in at rang 2 and drop 12 dice, Dash has been the roughest to get around.

I love moving first with the sigma's. That and checking your opponents dial really messes with them.

I've done well moving first with the phantoms especially when they are cloaked, it worries the opponent because they are unpredicable. my favorit move is a de-cloak and hard 1 it puts you further back and a shot at them, i dont mind range 3 shot with them at all its still 4 dice
