I think Bol'Goreth is going to be really strong paired with an Infector-heavy OL deck. Having Plague Release and Infected/Envenom along with Adaptive Contagion is going to keep the heroes amassing infection tokens like crazy, and Airborne can be used to allow ranged units to deliver infection tokens on every miss.

As I recall, it was ruled before that even if a hero already has a condition, it still counts as being Poisoned or whatever if something happens that would give it to them again. This means Infector cards can still trigger when a hero is repeatedly hit with conditions. After a few quests are past and you have some Plot cards, bring in the Bol'Goreth agent — who can deal Poison AND Disease with a surge — and use Affliction Aura on him, and you could very quickly have tons of infection tokens to take advantage of.

Maybe this is less effective than I think; I haven't tried it yet. But from checking out the cards it seems like it would work.

I was wondering if this strategy has been tried yet? I'm setting up to use it myself, tnx!

Thanks for the referral Guillaume, as i read it it could be overkill.. overlapping strategies & not getting the cards you need at the right time.

Maybe by being selective in what to choose i can see some chemistry. Like protecting roadblockers, questtargets, lieutenants, agents with a combination of:

Bol's plotcard Affliction Aura (disease when starting turn within 5 spaces of the marked monster)

&

the overlord card Adaptive Contagion (changing poison/disease into infections)

=> stacking infections & adding shields to the defense

Guess i'll test it a bit :-)

I have tried to pair up Bol'Goreth's plot deck with Infector class cards, I actually still have this campaign on-going.

I personally think the combo looks better on paper than what it actually does in practice. It's not bad or anything, but I haven't found it as being overpowered or anything. The problem I have with Infector class is the fact you can only spend an Infection token during an attack/test, so technically speaking it doesn't matter if the hero has a million of them on his sheet as you are restricted to only use one per instance.

Turning Poison/Disease into Infection tokens is a nice ability, it does speed up the infection and makes the class more effective. But then you still have to draw your Infector cards and Bol Goreth provides no help in doing that, as opposed to Baron Zachareth. Zachy's utility cards allow you to pull out decent Infector plays on an acceptable basis, which Bol Goreth does not. So in some quests you can draw dead and have 3/4 or your cards sitting there doing nothong. I prefer having cards I can use in my hand and that includes my plot cards.

Also I´ve come to appreciate Disease as a condition lately, it's really nice to drain that extra stamina every turn if you can make it stick. Disciple/Apothecary isarenormally busy removing other types of conditions that have a more immediate threat to the heroes. Everything in this game resolved around how much fatigue the heroes can spend.

So yeah, Infector seems overated to me, but maybe some other overlords around here can attest its advertised power. I have been playing it, it's done okay-ish (bar the times I couldn't draw the right cards), but the supposed upside has been a bit underwhelming.

Ok Indalecio, thanks for looking into this!

I was thinking of adding some draw control by buying a few of these cards:

Upgrade

Plan ahead

Schemes

and maybe even Unholy Ritual

But on the other hand... Zach's deck does that better i guess, and without the xp cost :-)

Old thread this may be, but it's intriguing to me. Currently playing:

Valyndra Plot:

All plot cards purchased

2x Unholy Ritual (Magus)

1x Word of Pain (Magus) (Not in deck)

1x Diabolic Power (Magus)

1x Airborne (Infector)

1x Call of the Ravens (Unkindness)

Monsters and why I use them:

Kobolds... duh (Airborne, Unholy Ritual, Agent, Door stopper.)

Goblin Archers or Witchers (Airborne mostly)

Arachyura (Plot deck gives bonus damage and defense, Airborne protects them.)

Wendigo (Plot deck gives bonus damage and defense, Airborne protects them, also stealthy and ravage are fantastic.)

Airborne is always drawn and traps are always returned to my hand. Players know their clock is shortened by airborne saving multiple creatures by creating roadblocks, so they don't search often. Valyndra profits greatly from her initial card as you can obtain 8 threat as a one time deal. Banking extra threat on one card that requires no activation cost is also a bonus. Probably not the most synergistic, but very powerful at stopping races.

Seeds of Betrayal (Zachareth) and Infector is, in my opinion, BY FAR the best combo to crush a campaign.

Seeds of Betrayal deck controls allow you to use Infector at it's maximum potential since you can draw the required cards at the start of the quest, and even lower your deck to 13 cards (and less since infector cards are off-deck)

Universal and Magus OL's card can also synergize as mentioned by InfinityBlack14 right above,

The Bol'Goreth/Infector is seriously underwhelming. I did try it myself and yes, that's also how I felt. But with Zachareth... it's... yeah.
