Is it just me or is the Tyrnaid artwork a bit disappointing? Just goggling "Tyranid Artwork" and seeing some of the amazing images that come up relative to the artwork on most of the spoilers makes it seem like the art on these cards is a bit second rate.. Particularly cards like Hunter Gargoyles and Termagant Spikers seem way to tooney, and just of an overall lower level of detail and quality than top-rate Tyranid art. I know we've only seem a few cards so hopefully we'll be seeing some better art as more spoilers roll in.
Anyone else a bit disappointed in the Tyranid art?

I noticed that too but wasn't going to say anything until I actually held the cards.
Me too. Son and i were on devient art. Curious about what Tyranids looked like. Amazing art. ( On a larva kick and everything insects). He now wants to be an artist just so he can draw these guys. I was bit let down as well with FFGs art and the coloring of cards. The Warlord is the most bland of them all. ( Not his ability mind you) Once i get playing all the new cards and using my double warlord dial and giving all my tokens ranged and bringing stuff out of the discard pile that just won't die and totally infesting all of the traxis sector... i probably won't even notice.
Too early to say. We've only seen a small percentage of the art pieces featured on the cards. Don't forget also that the high quality art you may have been looking at may take an artist a couple weeks of work to produce per piece. We're looking at over 50 unique cards being released in this expansion. That would be upwards of 2 man-years of work to produce the art needed for the release (for art alone). Personally, I'm ok with it if FFG commissions some perfectly nice looking art -- even if it is not the absolute top of the line that money can buy -- while maintaining the ability to release expansions in a timely fashion and keep the price point where I don't have a problem paying for it.
I can't say I'm disappointed, but I am a bit surprised. From the nids descriptions in books, I was expecting that none would look as humanoid as some of them do. Walking upright on hind limbs, that sort of thing. I was expecting a more generally alien shape.
Also, their weapons don't look as I thought they were supposed to. My understanding is that they are all organic and pretty much a part of their bodies. Limbs, growths and whatnot. But more often than not, it looks like they are carrying them rather than it being a part of them. I'm far from being an expert on them, so maybe my perceptions are wrong, but this is how it strikes me.
Im not dissapointed at all.
40k Art comes in all shapes and sizes. From incredible to good/normal standard. Currently FFG hires mostly artists who don't have tons and tons of 40K artwork experience (likely to reduce the price for their art) and as such offer great new art to be used for their excellent cardgame.
As with all art on Conquest there is much more better and detailed stuff out there. However because of the giant masses of armies they often depict are not usefull for representations of single Army cards. A.k.a. units.
In special Tyranid art show swarms and swarms of different Tyranids, this is very hard to use to represent a single type of unit.
I think the art I'd pretty good. But 5he again I do remember the first tyranid codex, and these cards are a lot better.
The old one eye card looks 100 percent like the current codex version so... I can't really complain about that.

'nids steal and then integrate DNA from races they devour, so it's not surprising that they're mostly bipedal.
As for the weapons, they ARE bioweapons, and they are indeed grown. It also bothers me that they appear to have pistol/rifle grips, but that's how the models are designed.
I think the art looks pretty good, though I will admit that One Eye is a bit bland looking. Overall, I think the art is looking good so far.

There are plenty of non bipedal Tyranid units, but a lot of their core units are bipedal. There are even two in the preview, Hunter Gargoyle and Virulent Spore Sacs. The cards shown pretty much look just like their models so I'm not really surprised at all. Btw, the weapons are ogranic, they are just grown with pistol/rifle grips. My guess is it has something to do with assimilating the weapons or something, but I'm not that well versed in Tyranid lore.
You can go here to see the models.
Edited by KaicCompared to the darker art in Space Hulk Death Angel, yes the card work is a little more brighter in WH 40K Conquest, but SPDA is a very dark game indeed (85% fail rate) and is better played in a solo manner. It also takes place in a dark place, a hulk, confinement and claustphobqia, that's my general experience with Tyranids, very Aliens esque.
With WH40KC, you're dealing with a more different atmosphere, like assuming these battles take place on a planet with open fields and caverns, jungles, swamps and desserts in broad daylight, so the art work is going to reflect some of those attributes. Also the different varieties of soldiers offers more different art concepts, colours, angles, I'm personally only use to seeing Genestellars and Hive Lords (yep, that's where I got my user name... Slayed a few Hive Lords in my day.)
Simply put, I agree the art work isn't as dark as my experience with Tyranids, but for this game, lighter art work will work better.
Edited by Hive LordThat's true good point.
Off topic: I want a 40k version of those movies! GW good at raising prices not so smart when it comes to making money off the stuff they do. They could of been up their with Marvel, GW studios.

I agree but GW has kept that of the boat for years. Altough if the big studios would pay them enough it would be optional for sure. Altough as we know GW a bit this wont be cheap.
The only reason I feel FFG got this project was due to great succes of XWing and good relations due to previous Warhammer projects.
That's true good point.

There was a god awful space marine cgi movie done 5 or 6 years ago.
I wish gw would let a decent studio make some good video games.

I hear that. Think I've seen that or part of it. Did it have Iron Fist space marines? Think Ultra too.
I remember ultramarines really don't Remember the movie.
Yeah that movie is an abomination of what could have been...
A single tactical unit on a desert planet versus a dozen orso Chaos Space Marines and one Chaplain that turns Daemon Prince I believe.... It was rather dissapointing.
