Raider article or nothing. I'd say... maybe 2:1 in favor of the latter.

Edited by Vorpal Sword

I don't really expect any X-Wing news today, but a small part of me wants a Wave VII announcement. They might do that or a Raider article today or Monday, but I can't divine their update schedule based on how they've been doing it so far.

nothing, hopefully

I don't want to be excited about anything new while we have a beautiful new Meta to nurture and raise

pray that we do a good job and we don't end up with a ****-up drop-out like the last kid <_<

My money's on radio silence.

Nothing today, more info on Raider cards - possibly Tie Advanced centred - on Monday.

What are you talking about? The last kid always showed up for class. He was so reliable you could use him to set your watch--never any real surprises, just slight variations on exactly what you saw from him yesterday and the day before. You couldn't rattle him or throw him off his game, either; he could be confident in succeeding almost regardless of who else showed up.

I want a drop-out. I want this metagame to be full of unpredictable kids who get into knife fights, and who show up or disappear suddenly and without warning--kids who might have concealed weapons, or be smuggling something under their trenchcoat, or might even be exactly what they appear to be, and you'll never know which until you sit down with them at the table.

Wait are we still talking about X-Wing? Why would you bring a knife to an X-Wing tournament? I'm so confused

I bet we'll get something and I lean towards a new announcement.

The underground meta that is the real reason why dual ship builds are popular. Lose a ship, lose a bodypart...

You know the saying Crabbok:

Never bring a knife to a plastic spaceship gunfight

back on topic though, my gut tells me that things might be a little quiet on the x-wing front for a little while.

We've got a whole new faction to play with, and that's a pretty big deal, there's a whole lot of dust that needs a little time to settle.

Plus FFG have a new SW franchise to promote - Armada - I can't see FFG diluting the launch of that to their hardcore SW game buying customers by releasing a whole bunch of info on new x-wing waves - it's just not good business.

I'm pretty ok with things going a little quiet - the Rebels and Imperials don't need anything more than a little buffing here and there, and certainly don't need any new ships for a good while - Scum will need some fleshing out but that can wait until the dust settles.

A drip feed of a few Raider spoilers is about the best we can hope for

How about a Regional location announcement? That's my guess.

Honestly I kinda want the Scum to enjoy the spotlight for a while. Strategy article or something would be fine, but we don't always need to be stealing the thunder of the new releases.

I'm going to guess they will announce Regional locations today.

And while that's perfectly reasonable, and even sort of expected for a normal company, that hasn't been how it works with XWM, historically.

For all the releases that I can think of (I've been around from the beginning, but not always trolling the internet for info) we've gotten the first peek at the next wave within a day or two of the day the "current" wave hits the streets. This is the longest delay I remember between a wave hitting and the first preview for the next.

I'm still not sure which I prefer...

That kid sounds rather scummy to me.

Which is exactly the kind of kid I used to hang out with in high school.

I'd really like to see an updated FAQ before anything else.

For Escalation, obviously.

Regional locations!!!! Please

But historically FFG haven't had 2 Star Wars space combat games running concurrently.

They will have soon, and have managed to build up a strong following of customers for one of them - who are obvious customers for the second.

So it makes good business sense from their perspective to starve XWM for a time while they market Armada to that same customer base. It won't do XWM any harm and will give Armada a decent spotlight.

I would argue that starving XWM could do plenty of harm. Gamers are fickle and not every XWM player is into Armada.

Remember, we on the FFG forum are the slim obsessive minority. We may be getting into both games, but I know plenty of XWM players that will NOT be picking up Armada. And without new shiny XWM stuff FFG runs the risk that they may get into other new, shiny games and move on.

And that's why the previews are a useful tool for FFG. Knowing that in 6 months FFG is coming out with something awesome keeps players interested even if FFG is doing something they don't care for at that time. I have a friend who sold all his XWM stuff because the factions didn't interest him. But when scum was announced I got him playing again. He ended up picked up some scum stuff!

Needs bloodstripes to properly be called a knoife.

Same here.

But in the meantime, I'd accept three TIE Advanced pilots.

That would be nice - at least for the sake of speculative list building etc - but I wonder how many of us will just go ahead and buy the Raider anyway even if the pilots aren't spoiled prior to the release.

I wouldn't be quite so gloomy - Armada will drop in a month or so with the Raider following closely behind.

A few weeks of no announcements of new x-wing products or Raider spoilers will hardly send players away in droves.

In fact from where I'm standing XWM has never been healthier.

For the first time since...... well since ever, there are decent stock levels of just about everything (except the 2 big Fs - but we won't talk about that lol!) and round my way that has been really positive.

Because of the full shelves, new players are joining up in droves over the last few weeks because for the first time they can walk into their LGS and pick up whatever they want - without being put off an immediate purchase by feeling like they've got to hold off until the hot new wave comes out.
