Here are some more of what I'd call my finished product:
The starship minis that I've decided fit best are the Galoob Micromachines and the WOTC Minis
The vehicles are just carboard print outs on GW flying bases.

Very pretty.

Those are some very well done plates. Only downside, they don't have a way to hold them to the neighbor, heheh. Would love to see more of your work.
The plates cost about 50c per hex (they are made of high density ply), sprayed with sealer, then sprayed black. I just "flicked" on the white for stars. I then created asteroids, planets and space-stations in Adobe, printed them out on full page labels, and cut to size before sticking them on.
The large planet was the hardest as I had to put 7 hexes together then apply the sticker. I was very happy the way it turned out. The next batch of hexes, I'll get the manufacturer to cut the 7 hexes out as one piece, and then get several planets done at once.
For the roads, I just created a hex in Adobe (see a trend), printed them out on full page labels, cut to size and wa-la - City Street. I intend to do the same with forests, and has large "trees" as additional obstacles.
Each one of the hexes represents a range band, and this works perfectly using this system.
Edited by GM HoolyI really like this! I am going to steal the hell out of this idea.
Steal away! If you want some of the images, let me know.

And where did you find such things?
They look amazing, by the way, and using them for range band is brilliant!
Consider them yoinked!
Find a place that does laser cutting. There is a place I use here in Australia called BP Laser, however there is a place in the US those does it to. I'll see if I can find it, but I can tell you that they had a booth next to Gen Con Australia's booth at Gen Con Indy 2007.
Edited by GM HoolyI think I might have found someone local that already does custom Settlers of Catan boards, and also sells blank hexes.
I'm trying to see if I can go pick them up today.
