Any good meta Scum builds yet?

By gundamv, in X-Wing

I 'won" the local event with a 3 scum hwk list. I say won because it was such an @$$hole list that everybody decided I wasn't allowed to fly it any more. Actually went 2-2

I'm confused. Did you actually do well with it? Were you actually told you couldn't play it? Or did you actually just go 2-2 and the rest was a joke? I can't tell.

You should call that list "Mo' HWKs" if you don't already have a name for it.

So, played against 3 double Aggressor lists today. I won twice, but these were the kind of victories where one battered no-name survivor limps back to the base to spread the horrid tales of the atrocities that occurred in the dark depths of space.

1.) Aggressors are ******* terrifying (but in a good "oh ****, if I screw up I'm done for" way and not "oh great, he gets a shot no matter what I do" way which is more bored senseless than terrified)

2.) Aggressors are basically a bad match-up for the rest of the S&V line-up, literally all of it except Xizor (maybe Boba, haven't tested). 2 dice ships are effectively worthless, there's too much health to feedback, you're almost never getting into BTL or HWK range (refer to previous comment for range 3), they slaughter Scyks for giggles and their stats are going to punch through firesprays mano-a-mano.

Aggressors are a stupid good combination of stats and modifiers (sensor actions, IG-88B, cannons, auto-thrusters) that are just stupid powerful in the hands of a skilled player. At range 3, you're basically just not touching them. Everyone better watch the **** out for them in the future.

At this point in time, I'd go so far as to say that they're the list to beat. Hell, I've chewed through enough Soontirs and Whispers that they no longer even surprise me. Those...things, though...those things scare me.

The question though is can IG-2000s defeat Fat Han or Phantoms.

They tear through Fat Hans, I've seen it. Phantoms are a little tougher, but with Auto Thrust and the IGC plus three defense die's I would say Phantoms are in trouble as well. I hate to say this, but the IG's are OP. They have one of the best dials I have ever seen, almost all Greens, distanceless ability with the IG-2000 title. Plus they have 3 attack 3 agility and eight hit points. When you pair two with auto thrusters and Advanced Sensors they are incredibly hard to to even touch. They should have either made IG-2000 unique and only let one use the sharing aspect, given them 2 agility, or make their IG-2000 ability a distance like the HWK. I understand the Phantom was told it was OP, but at least when it is decloaked it is only 2 agility and cloaking is an action. I think this IG's will overtake both Deci and Phantom lists as well as Fat Hans and the game has become a little off-balance.

Well yes and yes

only anecdotal evidence from a local store championship so far, but a double IG-88 build punched through Echo and Han and almost made it to first.

The reasoning is simple: too many numbers. Aggressors have the most "stuff" out of every other single ship in the game, including easily the best innate defensive stats, so you're never beating them in a straight dice off. Toss on auto-thrusters for turrets and IG-88B for high agility + tokens (phantoms) and you're in for an easy loss if you don't engage them on your terms.

I know a lot of people might be thinking Phantoms might have an "Easy" time between higher PS and maneuverability...no. You have two, wide arcs pointed at you with an offense/defense that exceeds your own at range 3 (They get a bonus die + thrusters, you get jack and ****), so you simply aren't surviving for long if they find you.

Do you know the build list for the IG-2000 build you mentioned? I just got two of those things and am eager to test them out.

expert handling (don't laugh, it's ridiculous in the right hands), auto-thrusters, HLC, Sensors

IG-88 B & C

Just from my experience with HLC Defenders, those Gunner/HLCs on Aggressors are just going to pound through Whisper or any other Phantom. They can't dodge both those arcs forever, and Aggressors have great defense.

There has been a distinct lack of phantoms recently, not because it's suddenly become bad, but more because people want to try autoFel. This has brought out more turretless 4+ ship lists, which has been quite refreshing.

However, once autoFel has culled all the remaining turrets, i expect phantoms to come back big time and trounce all those swarms and Biggs lists.

if your 4 ship list doesn't have control (or isn't flown immaculately), it deserves to be trounced :P

actually just had a local store championship today where I finally got to prove that 4 ship rebels have a place in the new meta, whatever it ends up being, after slogging through the likes of super Dash, super Whisper, and jesus-christ-how-terrifying-IGs with Stress Luke (V.I, R3-A2, Engine), two tactician Bs, and a plucky proto-type

Incidentally, it also punches straight through Soontir and any poor fool trying to PTL through your squadron :)

Question:

Suppose I run Aggressor B against Fat Han. I roll only 1 hit and C-3PO causes that hit to go away. When I make the second attack using Aggressor B's Gunner-like effect, does C-3PO still activate?

separate attack is separate (so no, ditto evades/focus and any other once per round triggers such as R7 astromech)

So, that's why Double IG-2000s is such a powerful build. You can throw away the first shot, burn up C-3PO or evade tokens, and then have the second shot do damage for real.

indeed (same reasoning behind why Gunner is so powerful)

When running any number of aggressors, I can see no earthly reason to not bring IG-88B with you in every single game

88B is typically the first one I kill. The second 88X falls pretty quick after that.

It's only been one weekend but here are the Scum squads that have placed in tournaments so far.

On the more serious side than my post upthread, there is no Wave 6 metagame yet. People are still in that golden phase where they experiment and run lists they think will be good, or just fun, rather than waiting for someone else to tell them what's good. There will be time enough later to get comfortable with a stable (stale?) metagame. For now, just play.

This

And we don't all have wave 6 yet. I only just got my "your toys have arrived" text about half anhour after starting work today.

It took ALL my self control not to pull the 'Im feeling sick BS' **** I cannot wait to pick them up tomorrow.

Got two of everything waiting for me.....

Waiting......

Gah

I got a store tournament coming the 28th this month and dammit im having a hell of a time picking out what I want to run for my scum list. I got

x4 Scyks

x2 StarVipers

x2 Aggressors

X1 HWK

x1 Firespray

X2 Z-95

X3 Y-Wings..........should be able to make something great out of all that

Edited by Grave13

Only one Firespray??.....

Oh dear

For me I can't wait to try building a new scumy version of the good ol Scarlet Cow Girl list.

Not to sure what to put in place of her ever trusty stead though.....

Exiting times we live in aye

I played in 2 store championships this weekend with Scum, the second was Escalation but I used the core of my 100 point list & just added more Z's in for the higher point games. I went 6-2 with one of those losses being in the final on Saturday & 4-0 Sunday with no KO & winning the event.

the list I named Pirates & Thugs & is;

Binayre Pirate

Binayre Pirate

Syndicate Thug

Ion Cannon Turret

Unhinged Astromech

BTL-A4

Syndicate Thug

Ion Cannon Turret

Unhinged Astromech

BTL-A4

Palob Godalhi

V.I

Blaster Turret

K4 Security Droid.

I found it very effective, Palob is amazing, he really makes your opponent worry about what actions to take & most peoples response is to just TL instead of focus or evade, that's fine, they then have no tokens to defend themselves with! the Y-Wings cause serious hurt & with that astromech they are super speedy & it really seems to catch people off guard how quickly you can engage at range 2 & start to lay the pain & deal some Ion.

Edit; Spelling mistakes

The last store championship I went to 4 out of the top 8 builds including mine were scum builds. This was out of 20 players.

Just as a note, a seasoned player doesn't spend a token if it is the difference between spending and activating gunner -- they take the lone hit. I'd think the same is true of 3PO. If 3P0 were the difference between taking a hit and canceling an extra, I'd avoid using 3PO and just take the result. Then 3P0 is still available for the next attack if I do roll well enough.

Agreed. The only time this really happens is if there is only one or two HP left on a ship or if it's something like Soontir with a Stealth Device and numerous tokens, where it's worth spending a token to try and save your Stealth Device. Generally it's insurance against terrible luck firing on low AGI ships, and insurance against mediocre luck when firing on high AGI ships. The strength of IG88-B is that it can be lent to another IG88. Otherwise, a ship might just take the hit and use its tokens for another attack that doesn't have gunner. No net gain in that case. I'm not saying a Gunner isn't great, but it has its strengths and weaknesses.
