Recruiting for a new EotE PbP group
Uh, it's only been like thirty hours since this was posted. Probably managing his other games
I tend to be active 20 out of 24 hours a day. Makes things seem longer.
an Exploration game sounds really interesting. I messaged the GM with a few different character ideas but I am willing to play what ever role the party needs as I find them all interesting. My other games have been more heavily combat focused (not murdo hobo but routine combat) that being said it would be interesting to play in a game that used combat more as a secondary feature. My number one Once the group is finalized we will have to discuss what we are looking for and what equipment we would like to use. A base of Operations sounds interesting but may not be the best for an exploration game.
As for the pregenerated campaigns i have played part of the beginners game and read though a bunch of the others for ideas but have not played any of them completely through so i would be happy with one of them or with a custom campaign. though in my experience even pregenerated campaigns become custom quickly.
An Outer Rim Survey Corps? Got a dedicated pod for a wayfarer transport, keeps running into off-the-books smuggling, pirae or rebel operations.
So what happened to Shadowarrior anyway?
I should have put this in post #1 of this thread: I'm afraid that I won't be posting every day, since I do not currently have net access at home, and I also lack the funds to afford to travel to my favorite local WiFi hotspot every day. When I did have internet at home I was online about 20 hours a day, as Muttonchop can attest to. Those days, along with the 6 PbPs I was running at the time, alas, are past.
Also please note that 4 players were already accepted prior to my (scheduled) absence yesterday, as indicated in post #1 (which shows the timestamp of the last edit).
Let me know over which platform (rpol etc.) will we play, and when will move there to start discussing PCs etc.
Cheers,
Yepes
I will be hosting the game either at nemeses.freeforums.org or www.myth-weavers.com. I'm an admin at nemesis, which provides me with some distinct advantages. OTOH, myth-weavers is a huge community site. I'll make a decision as to which in the next few days. In the interim, please use this thread for all our game-related public discussion.
Before anyone asks, we'll be using orokos.com for dice rolling. Yes, I know that myth-weavers has built-in EotE dice-rolling capability. I prefer orokos. It's more powerful and flexible and has excellent logging.
Thanks for adding me to the waiting list. Sucks that I didn't make it in, but I can wait. More interested in an EotE start than jumping straight into AoR, so I'll probably stick to the waiting list instead.
Good luck with getting the game started. I'll PM you my email later in case a slot opens up (I don't check here frequently).
Great, thanks! Exploration sounds like fun, especially if we have a good reason to be exploring. Maybe independent contractors prospecting for a big company like Cygnus Spaceworks or a shady organization like Black Sun? I'm most interested in the pilot, tech, and gunner archetypes, but I'll hold off on getting excited about any one character until we nail down the game type and who wants to play which archetype.
My preference is the tech, with a small affinity for gunner. I don't have a lot of interest in playing a face, though I agree one is basically necessary. Second choice would be equal parts pilot and tech. If we have too much of everything, and are doing the exploration gig, I can instead play some flavor of wilderness scout.
Please note that I listed seven roles, not archetypes. A role is a function within a party, a metagame concept. While an archetype is similar, there can be more than one archetype able to fulfill a given role, and an archetype may also fit more than one role. For example, a scholar archetype might be a face, or they might be medic, a tech, or even a gunner. A noble archetype is usually a face or a medic, but I have also seen noble gun-bunnies.
For now, please focus on whether you'd like (door #1) to get started right away via playing through FFG's Beginner Game module (which is a pretty good start for zero-XP characters and new parties), or you'd prefer (door #2) a completely custom starting adventure.
Edited by ShadoWarriorI've played and run both beginners box adventures, so I'd vote for the custom starting aventure. (especially if it fits the party exploration theme better)
I've ran Beyond the rim, but it was for knight-level (EoE) charaters, so I expect the experience will be different when we dont overpower encounters with our charisma.
I've also run both adventures, and the AoR followup (though not LAotH). I'm also leaning towards something new/custom, and can wait for it to be crafted.
Perhaps we start off simply exploring for new planets' habitability, or valuable metals in an asteroid belt, and eventually find ourselves looking in specific sectors for 'bases' for customers, or scouting for rare isotopes on way outer rim gas giants. Along the way, we get to avoid pirate entaglements (who loooove those out of the way hidey-holes), strange life forms, stranger diseases, and the occasional customs official who's on the take and wants his cut.
None of the existing FFG adventures are challenging to knight-level characters. GMs need to put in a significant amount of work in scaling them up.

My vote would be to start with the published beginner adventure so we can shake the bugs out of the party and the PbP system with something simple, and then move on to custom games that suit the party's goals. That said, I know how much work it is to prep custom adventures, so I'm happy to play FFG's games or converted WEG games as well.
My vote is that you seem to be very busy running X PbP games, so I prefer for you to decide what will be more feasible given your time schedule. For me any story will do.
Yepesnopes makes a great point. I am open to playing custom or premade adventures whatever fits better into your play style. I know personally as a gm I never run premade adventures because I prefer having "complete" control over the storyline... besides changes the players invariably make.
That being said, since I am not very familiar with the PbP style and it seems like several other on here are also not familiar with it, I would prefer to start with something a little simpler so we can shake out the PbP style, as well as our characters, and each other a little bit more. This would also give us the opportunity to ensure we are all on the same page about the basic rules. While they are laid out pretty clearly in the rule books, I find there are often subtle differences in how people think they are applied. This is easy enough to calibrate in a normal game but I do not know how it will work on a PbP forum.
I am attaching a list of my top three character/ archetypes that i would like to play. The personalities and stories will be adjusted depending on what we decide to play.
woops I forgot to attach the list
1) Human Spy Infiltrator (rogue)
2) undecided race Technician Mechanic (technician)
3) Undecided Bounty Hunter Assain (gunner)

I second this. The best stories are the ones that the GM wants to tell.
A majority appears to be for going with the (simpler) Beginner adventure (that we can begin with minimal delay). Wise choice.
Moving on, please register on this site, which is where I have decided that the PbP will be hosted, and then read the contents in New Members Read This First. The Character Review subforum is where you will post your proposed characters for review and GM approval. The Trial By Fire game forum contains the subforums for In Context (IC) and Out of Context (OOC) message threads, as well as a House Rules subforum that you are all highly encouraged to read. I will be posting more house rules in that forum in the next hour or two.
Those of you that may not be familiar with the Orokos dice rolling site should also acquaint yourselves with it sometime soon.
After you have registered at the Friends and Nemeses freeforums.org site, please continue discussing your character build ideas and who'll be playing what role in the Trial By Fire - Escape From Mos Shuuta (OOC) thread.
See you at Friends and Nemeses!
The party is now at the start of Long Arm of the Hutt and we have an opening for one player, to take on a 'face' role (someone skilled at Charm and Negotiations). Interested players can inquire about joining in our PbP game's OOC thread.
As one of the players in Shado's group - we're moving along, and someone with skills in face stuff would be fantastic. To know what you're getting into - the GM is fairly demanding (spelling, IC vs OOC, meta-knowledge etc) and the expectation is to post at least a few times a week. I'm rather enjoying it and we'd love to have some new blood!
