Does the Target Lock from FCS count as an action?

By Radzap, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I'm thinking about taking FCS plus Expert Handling so I can use Experimental Interface to get a barrel roll from the free TL from FCS.

Does that work, or is there some wizardry that makes the TL you get from FCS not an action?

No - there is a difference between acquiring a target lock and performing a Target Lock Action

**Edit** Just to expand on this slightly for greater clarity - while performing a target lock action causes you to acquire a Target Lock, there are other ways to acquire a target lock which do not cost you an action, and will therefore allow you to acquire more than one target lock per round (provided you aren't trying to maintain more than one TL at a time)

The upgrade card or pilot ability will clearly state which you are doing

So for example Fire Control System states:

After you perform an attack, you may acquire a target lock on the defender.

So in this case you are Acquiring - not performing an action.

Oh semantics always poops in my biscuit!

I guess there's no way to turn Guri into Turr Phenir then.

I can think of plenty of people who didn't appreciate the distinction at first ..... well one anyway - it was me
