Wanted Posters

By chemical22, in Talisman Rules Questions

If a wanted poster is moved off of the first square in the City, does it still cost a gold to take?

I assume not, since it is the square that is creating the "payment rule" and not the poster itself.

Just seeing what everyone else thinks.

Agreed. This is how we view such spaces...

We view the City Gates is a "card grabber" square, like the Cell in the Dungeon. This means while you normally resolve cards in encounter number order (#1-6) then space instructions last, a few spaces refer to specific cards, and those cards become part of the space instructions and thus resolved last. However, they can still be the target of effects, and if they're ever displaced, they're "freed" from those instructions.

For example, normally you can take all the Objects on a space. But in the City Gates, whenever a Wanted Poster ends up there (either through being ditched, moved, etc.) it gets grabbed by the space instructions. So you'd deal with all the cards on the space first (#1-6) but skip the Wanted Posters even though they are #5. If you make it to the space instructions (i.e. you didn't get defeated by an Enemy #2 there isn't a Place #6 or something on there like the Maze) then you can follow the space instructions and buy Wanted Posters.

Likewise, as you said, if the Wanted Poster somehow gets displaced onto another space, then it's "freed" from requiring payment and it can be taken with the rest of the #5 Objects as normal.

Keep in mind that this isn't an official FFG sequence, but we got inspiration from the Digital Edition (it's how it handles it). It's one way to deal with multiple cards on those spaces. However, regardless, I think you are right that the City Gates creates the payment rule.

Thanks for the response.

I thought it was a pretty simple question, but we did have people in our game questioning if that were the proper way to handle it - so I thought I'd throw it out to the experts.
