Seriously, this game is a slippery slope.
I started by getting a Falcon expansion for Christmas.
I had the expansion, so may as well get the starter set.
I had the starter, but had too many points in Rebels, so got the Advanced.
Still not close to a 100-point squad, so got a second core set, and used a gift certificate to buy a Firespray.
Within a year, this had happened.
Thanks everyone who replied.
I like the m3-a Scyk, but that diean't mean I feel the urge to field a full team of them (unless it's actually a good strategy.
I'm thinking about buying the starter (I will most definitely find someone to trade the TIES to), the Most Wanted and a Scyk.
Is an Y-wing, 2 headhunters and 1 Scyk a goid foundation for a list?

I don't think you'll be able to get up to 100 points with just MW & a Scyk. Also, you'll need a turret for the Y-wing and while MW comes with Autoblaster Turret, it's only range 1, if you want to reach range 2 you'll need a Blaster Turret (comes in HWK pack) or an Ion Cannon Turret (HWK and Y-wing packs). The Y-wing can still shoot with it's forward arc, but it that does limit you're squad option a lot. I recommend getting a HWK & Firespray. The HWK has the Blaster turret for you Ywing, and Recon Specialist with is great on either the HWK or the Firespray. The Firespray will get you Veteran Instincts (increases you pilot skill by 2, a very popular upgrade) and Heavy Laser Cannon with you can use on both the firespray and the Scyk (the Scyk also come with Mangler Canon).
If you're ok with buying them online you can get al this from Miniature Market for $100 usd (plus free shipping):
Core game
Most Wanted
Hwk
Firespray (currently out of stock but should be available soon)
Scyk
Dicepack (added to get over $99 to get free shipping)

First and foremost, play whatever ships you'll have fun with. Get into the game, you'll enjoy it more. Don't worry about a lot of the suggestions here(no offence to anyone). Most these guys are telling you what is a strong setup. But if you're buying ships you don't really like for a few cards you'll run out of money quick and probably won't have some of the ships you actually want to play.
For instance, I have a friend who loves Tycho Celchu from the books. He plays with him every game just because he loves him. I have another friend who loves the HWK. Same thing, he plays with it every game and most the time it doesn't fit into his lineup very well. Would they play with those lineups in tournament? No. But it's what they have fun with in casual play.

If you're in the UK give me a shout if you want to offload the TIEs from the Core set - I wasn't kidding when I said I could do with a couple more. If you're elsewhere don't worry - I doubt I'm an isolated case.
You can put some reasonable lists together with a Y, 2 Zs and a Scyk - a little limited for sure, but plenty there to make a decent start with.
If you can squeeze a Firespray into the budget then I really recommend it - They're out of stock pretty much everywhere right now and it's going to be a few weeks before they get re-stocked - so you've got a little time to save up - don't feel tempted to pay some of the silly prices I've seen them go for on eBay.
Get a core set and then play some games. It will put the stats into context which can then help decide on further expansion. Did you like the tougher x-wing or the nimble tie fighter? This could lead to all sorts of variations.
If you absolutely must go S&V then Most Wanted is a good start. It will give you enough to play a game against another new player, if you loan them your x or ties and they use their own starter.

It depends on which pilot cards you use with those ships, but you can definitely build a 100-point squad out of all that. You definitely want to get a Rebel HWK-290 expansion, though — it comes with the Ion Cannon Turret and Blaster Turret cards that you may want to use with your Scum Y-Wing. (It'll also enable you to use a Scum HWK, the cards for which come in Most Wanted.)
In most cases, it's a better idea to get a second Core Set rather than the Dice Pack, but since you have no interest in Rebels or Imperials, a Dice Pack actually would be a good way to go for you. You definitely need six of each kind of dice, and the Core Set only comes with three of each.
I don't know why no one is recommending the StarViper in this thread, but I would say that it's worth a look. Especially for those two Autothrusters upgrade cards that it comes with — they'll eventually be useful for when you eventually get a couple IG-2000s. I'd rather get a StarViper before getting my second and third M3-As.
So yeah, I think a good place to start is with this:
Core Set
Dice Pack
M3-A Interceptor
Most Wanted
HWK-290
That's $117 MSRP. From there, consider getting an Imperial Firespray, a Rebel Y-Wing, a StarViper, two IG-2000s and a couple more M3-A Interceptors. Then you'd have a really solid Scum collection.
Of course, the other Rebel and Imperial ships have upgrade cards that could be useful to you — especially elite pilot talents, crew and modifications. If you end up really liking the game (and you probably will!), you'll likely move on to buying some of those ships.

Honestly, no, you won't have enough hit points or attack dice to even beat other casual lists, and with the upgrades you'd have available to you, you would struggle to get to 100 points without having weird things in your list.
You need either a blaster turret or Ion Turret to use a singleton Y-Wing effectively, neither of which are included in Most Wanted, Pick up an HWK, it has both the Ion and Blaster Turret, and a named Y-Wing (Kavil+Blaster+R4) + a named HWK (Dace+Ion) with 2 Z-95s and a scyk is actually a decent list.
Kavil - Determination (core), R4 Agromech (MW) Blaster Turret (HWK)
Dace Bonearm (HWK) - Ion Cannon Turret (HWK), Recon Specialist (HWK)
Binayre Pirate Z-95 x2
Cartel Spacer M3-A x1
You could also cut a Z-95 to give the Scyk a Mangler Cannon and Stealth Device and the other Z-95 a Hot Shot Blaster.
Edited by TvboyPersonally, I wouldn't recommend Scum as a starting point. They're still very new and haven't seen much play. Scyk swarms especially haven't been very competitive, and without an established collection, you'll be missing quite a few key upgrades (like Heavy Laser Cannon). Scum wasn't exactly designed with beginners in mind. Rebels are definitely a good starting point, and IMP, the easiest. Imperials are a bit more difficult because they're more fragile and rely heavily on maneuvering. Scum gets a bit tricky. They're a bit of a mix of both; they're very disruptive of enemy squads, and they love dirty tricks and crazy maneuvers (lookin at you, S-loop).
So, if you wanna play Scum, understand there will probably be a bit of a learning curve. I highly recommend Most Wanted, because it'll build your rebel fleet a bit as well as giving you some Scum variation. The IG-2000s are incredibly fun to fly too!
So here is a list of non-Scum expansions that will be most useful to you, LordBlades, on the basis of upgrade cards included (in order of what I'd say is most useful to least useful):

It might be a bit lacking in firepower. If you can find a Slave I (aka Firespray), you should consider grabbing that to go with your Most Wanted. MW contains all the stuff you need to use the Slave I as a Scum & Villainy ship and it can form a strong centre for you to build your list around. The IG-2000 would also work but I'm not sure it's as good overall, it has this thing where different IG-2000 pilots can hivemind and share all their abilities but you don't usually have enough points to field anything else with them that way. The Firespray pilots that Scum gets are better if you want to field some support ships with it.

As I have no idea what I'm doing yet (I can see the list, understand some synergies but that's it for now): How good is this list? Is it just a starting point or it can stand up to average-good lists?

Learning curves don't scare me that much, and I'd rather have a rougher start with the faction I like most than a smoother one with something that is not my favorite.

Sadly no UK, sorry, I'm from Romania, but thanks for the offer.
Well most everything has already been said.
First thing is a core set.
Scum and Viliany is not that good to start with. You may want to start Rebels (y-wings, Z-95, Hwks) then work to a S&V squadron.
Kavil - Determination (core), R4 Agromech (MW) Blaster Turret (HWK)
Dace Bonearm (HWK) - Ion Cannon Turret (HWK), Recon Specialist (HWK)
Binayre Pirate Z-95 x2

It's a good starting list that should be able to stand up to other average lists assuming an opponent of equal skill, you've got 2 turret ships that can deal a lot of damage, one with a 4 dice attack and the other deals 2 damage and ionizes, and 3 small ships to practice coordinated flying with.
If you want a competitive Scum build right off the bat, 4 Scyks come with everything you need to build 4x Heavy Scyks with Mangler Cannon and stealth device, and that is a very strong list but also one-dimensional and boring to fly, so you won't get much variety in your games and you won't grow as quickly as a player, but for $60 4 Mangler Scyks is actually a very strong and very cheap list.
