Can the Slave I join the scum faction?

By yindaka, in X-Wing Rules Questions

So, I'm completely new to X-Wing besides a demo or two. For now I've hold off getting in it, but with the new faction I'm very interested to finally start collecting/playing myself.

The "scum" faction interests me a lot and I'd love to start with the expansion pack and the base game. Yet, I wonder, can the Slave I join this faction as well? It seems to me it should be able to as after all it's piloted by a bounty hunter working for one of the biggests scums (Jabba).

Yes, it can, and welcome to the forums (and, hopefully, to the game)!

Really, there are two aspects to your question. Mechanically, in X-wing, there's are actually two versions of Boba Fett: one in the Imperial faction, and one in the Scum & Villainy faction.

Any Firespray-31 pilot, regardless of faction, can also equip the Slave I title as a free upgrade.

The Slave I title card states:

Slave I

Firespray-31 only.
Your upgrade bar gains the upgrade icon.

There is no mention of "Imperial only", therefore it can be used with any Firespray-31, Imperial or Scum.

Have fun flying Scum-Boba in the Slave I!

I always put it on him, even if I don't have him equip a torpedo.

The Moldy Crow title for the HWK can be Scum as well.

It should be noted that you will need a copy of the Most Wanted expansion in order to use the Scum version of Boba in official games. That expansion gives you both the ship token and pilot card for the Scum variant of Boba, but does not include a model.

Hello and welcome to the forums yindaka.

There is an excellent axiom regarding the interpretation of rules that I learned on this site in the early days - and although I still get things wrong and have the occasional question myself, it has generally stood me in good stead.

It goes:

"Do what the card says, not what it doesn't say"

9 times out of 10, if you read the card / rule carefully, ask yourself what the card / rule says - and what it doesn't say - and you'll have your answer.

Never be afraid to come here to double check, but you'll probably find you need a lot less help than you thought you did.

All the best!
