So I was checking R4-B11 out and wanted some clarification on the timing of his ability. As I read it even if I spend the TL during the attack the ability still triggers since I had a TL when attacking. That being said if someone argued that the ability applies to the defense roll and if there is no TL when it comes time to roll green die I could see their point that R4-B11 doesn't make them re-roll die. Any opinions on this?

The ability might trigger, but you won't have a target lock to spend.

Say you have a Y-Wing with R4-B11 and a proton torpedo.

Declare attack.

Spend target lock to fire the torpedo

R4-B11 might trigger, but it requires you spend a target lock, which you don't have anymore.

Unless you are Drea who can just keep the TL for stress. Drea can Launch a torpedo, reroll results, and force an opponent to reroll green dice (thought it will all cost 2 stress, 3 if you want to keep it at the end, which you do). She may even give Tycho a run for his money (ok, not really).

I'm with your hypothetical somebody on this one - modifying attack dice happens before you roll defence dice, so if you spent the target lock modifying the attack dice then you won't have it to spend modifying the defence dice. Basically I would infer, even though it's not explicitly stated, that "if you have a target lock" applies at the point when modifying defence dice takes place.

If you have something that gets you a new target lock then the important question is when that triggers. If it's "after you perform an attack" I always assumed that meant after all dice had been rolled, modified, and the effects resolved.

She absolutely does. I've seen an 8 stress drea. You have to be extra careful about how you lock and when they die to keep that chain alive.
