So, I feel that bombs are a bit underpowered in my gaming group, and I think there needs to be a couple of changes:
- Bombs shouldn't all act like mines
- Bombs should punish ships that move slowly
- Bombs should punish large based ships
So with this idea in mind, I suggest a new token called a 'bomb lock' that comes in pairs like a target lock.
Instead of being performed as an action, it triggers after the end of the activation phase.
At the end of activation, any ship that moved at speed '1' or lower, and is within range 3 of a bomb-capable ship can receive a red 'bomb lock' token, and the targeter receives a blue 'bomb lock' token.
Bomb lock tokens are cleared from a ship in the activation phase if it reveals a speed 2 or higher manoeuvre.
In the combat phase, if a ship has acquired 'bomb lock' and the defender is within range 2, the attacker can launch a bomb that detonates on the defender as though their base is the bomb token, so large based ships will create a bigger radius.
I know adding more tokens to the game is a bit messy, but what do you guys think?
