New sales figures: X-Wing set to surpass Warhammer?

GW has me by the short and curlies. We're just spatting right now about 40K. End of Times for WHFB is looking pretty amazing. I might have to get an army eventually. I spoke to a GW store manager the other day who hinted that there may or may not be something like a course altering event to happen in the 40K universe as well. I hate to say it, but if they ever do manage to throw something mindblowingly cool into the mix I'd be back in heartbeat.

My love of Star Wars ends after the original trilogy. The 40k universe will always be number one for me.

There are rumors circulating about the Emperor dying and ascending to become the Starchild. Or something along those lines.

Really.. that was the rumour being put around retail in the mid 90s!

The 'emporer dying/starchild/sensai' narrative was actually in 'the lost and the damned'.

Im amazed if they have resurrected that as once Bryan left studio it was all dropped pretty quickly.

While the first edition of 40k (Rouge Trader) was probably not the best set of rules, it did establish a background that is still extensively mined for the smallest of details. Many designers has expressed how they keep coming back to Rouge Trader all the time. And really, when was the last time GW wrote background lore as good as that of Rouge Trader? I myself can't help but remember all the times in recent years they have screwed up their own established lore. Most of those screw uos can of course be attributed to Matt Ward.

Rouge Trader - in the grim darkness of the 41st Millennium there is only cosmetics.

I was hoping there would be less of the GW hate wagon train in the X-Wing forums, but haters gonna hate.

I enjoy both games. They aren't comparable, they are very different, and they are both fun. Enough said.

RoV

X-wing has a lot of ex40k just like Netrunner has a lot of exMTG.

Coupled with a requirement to buy your 40K army three times over so your opponent can choose Red, Green or Blue at the start.

Put this on kickstarter. Please.

You'd really want to play it? The other issue is I don't have any game creation expertise or any artistic talent, so I'd need to find partners willing to do it.

I'm one of the 20 people who prefer 4th edition.

We should start a club.

Listen to Wil Wheaton: get excited and make things!

I cannot stand D&D: AW. Dragons are aerodynamically implausible. Makes me freaking crazy. The only way they could possibly work is if they were giant hydrogen gas bags, and even that rubs me the wrong way. Dragons...grumblegrumble. If they want to have non-airplanes or non-starfighters, use birds of prey. They're beautiful and intelligent and incredible fliers. Let's face it, Peregrine Falcon vs Northern Goshawk is a way cooler match-up than some lame sky lizards.

You what?

Dragons are real. Back 6000 years ago when the earth was created there were dragonosaurs and and dinons and unicorns and jebus rode a raptor..blah blah then came the great flood and wiped them all way and then some blah blah creationist bs happened and here are....

Yay toys are cool

Well, it was a nice thread while it lasted. <_<

Took me a minute or two to get your joke. Rogue Trader is much better, don't you think? :D

Well, now that the Anti-Christ of game design and lore has moved on we might see some improvement in this area. They just have to do something about Cruddace and the occasional Phil Kelly flop.

Apparently he saw what they were doing to 9th ed of warhammer and left.

I happen to be a creationist and an X-Wing minis fan...I'm not alone btw. Could you keep your anti-religion agenda off the forums and let us discuss the game in a mutually respectful way? Your "humor" operates under the assumption that everyone here is like-minded. I honestly believe that we can dialog here in a civil way that transcends our different views.

There is nothing anti-religious about remarking on how utterly vapid creationism is.

Indeed there are a great many more christians who believe creationism is damaging to christianity than there are creationists.

Stupid ideas may be mocked simply on the grounds that they are stupid - the fact that they happen to be stupid religious ideas is no reason for them to be accorded any respect

I see, so its open season on Bible-believing Christians here. Got it. Ad long as FFG and their mods are on board with that policy. Again, I might have similar feelings about evolution but I so need to rail on it here since all I would do is make people uncomfortable and take the emphasis off the game that we're discussing to a personal agenda.

No - If someone believes something that is demonstrably nonsense I will say so - I don't care if they feel they their nonsense should be protected from criticism because it just so happens to be religious nonsense - that's just their tough luck I'm afraid.

If you see something you think is disrespectful or intolerant, and you don't want to fight about it, use the forum's report function and move on. Responding to it directly adds more fuel to the fire.

I'm not telling you not to argue--that would be remarkably hypocritical of me. But if you actually want a civil dialogue, you're going about it the wrong way.

I thought it wonderfully appropriate that I was able to finalize a deal to sell off my decade's worth of 40k on the same day I added Scum to my collection.
