Star Wars Rebels: Interesting Ship info (SPOILERS)

By w00kie, in X-Wing

The underlying attitude seems to be, "We're telling our story and not beholding ourselves to over thirty years of already frequently contradictory material."

Honestly, I'd rather these guys worry about compelling characters and interesting stories than poring over old WEG sourcebooks to make sure they got the life support on TIE Fighters right.

That 30 years of contradictory material *is* the Star Wars Universe... without that all we'd have are a handful of movies with little to no world building.

But this implies that every single thing written in those 30 years is sacrosanct and worth keeping. And that definitely isn't the case.

Yeah, just because something was written first doesn't mean it needs affect all future things.

A-wings in 4BBY. Canon switchups!

Unless they're R-22s.

It's confirmed then, Disney is also on the band wagon of ruining my childhood.

The F-117 (stealth fighter) was used years before it's public debut in Desert Storm...maybe that't the case with these prototype A-wings?

Admittedly, I'm going off some concept art and the name, but maybe this group cobbled these things together themselves? An isolated cell using what they have? Eventually, once the Alliance is formed, they see how effective they are, and decided to produce them on a mass scale, only getting them into widespread use around the time of ROTJ.

Though most sources established that the A-wing was introduced by the Rebel Alliance after the Battle of Yavin, some EU sources deviate from this and show A-wings in use before Yavin, notably Star Wars: Droids, Star Wars: X-Wing, Star Wars: Rebel Assault, Star Wars: Force Commander, and Star Wars: Empire at War. Although from an out-of-universe perspective, this is clearly a case of game developers not being able to be bothered to check with existing canon first, from the in-universe view this presented an inconsistency. This was eventually reconciled in The New Essential Guide to Characters, where the pre-Yavin appearances of A-wings were retconned and explained as being R-22 Spearheads instead.[7] The name is similar to that of the R-41 Starchaser, and the Spearhead may, like the Starchaser, be a design of Hoersch-Kessel Drive, Inc.

From Wookieepedia. Also mentions (in unverse) the R-22 was nicknamed the A-Wing long before Yavin.

Basically...it's happened before, it will happen again, everything is probably fine.

it's gonna be great...loving Rebel's so far and next season

"they have a bigger bounty on their heads"

sounds like we get some of the clone wars bounty hunter showing up!

It's confirmed then, Disney is also on the band wagon of ruining my childhood.

Honestly, while I've always considered the A-Wing to be something that's post-Yavin, there's nothing in any of the movies that actually say this. It's not like the whole plot line falls apart if the A-Wing is older then we thought.

And in any case, I'm surprised none have commented on this, our favorite miniature game borrows HEAVILY (like, **** near exclusively at times) from the video games.

And the 'X-Wing' PC game plainly had A-Wings flown by the Rebellion well before Yavin. Indeed, IIRC, *all three* campaigns in the original release (with campaign 3 ending at Yavin) had players flying the A-Wing.

(Now, the *B-Wing* didn't show up until just before Hoth - I do hope they don't tinker a great deal with that timeline...)

Yup - the original X-Wing game also featured the precursor to the A-Wing, the R-22 Spearhead, which was being tested well prior to Yavin...

But they may of had reasons to make these changes. They couldn't really do 3 people in a tie if there's no internal life support.

TIEs are sealed, right? No life support doesn't mean no air. It means no air replacement.

What that fighter isn't, is a new ship that FFG can add to the Rebel line up. Oh well.

Still, as has already been said that Cruiser looks interesting.

Although judging by those butt-ugly original TIE Transport weird things they had in one episode of the first series, this may be a good thing...

It's them or the MAAT.

I'm a little more interested in that cruiser of theirs.

It's a Pelta-class frigate from Clone Wars with a new paint job.

Hope we get an Epic one.

Awesome.

Notice that they repeatedly say "Capitol Ship?" Unless they're carting around the temple of Jupiter Optimus Maximus, someone at Disney can't spell!

Also, I guess it doesn't really matter, but I hope those A-wings are prototypes or something. It's ok to have them before Yavin, just weird since they seem like they're supposed to be a really advanced fighter. Some bits are jarring, but overall it looks neat.

I'm just excited that the CR-90 repaint I did id actually, miraculously, in the final scenes of the season finale. I did mine by simply redoing the red striping as blue and adding engine glow and turbolaser scoring marks. I had figured it looked close enough to the CR-70 model pics scheme it would be considered feasible, and I thought I had seen one in an earlier Rebels episode but can't find it now. When those three Runners streaked through that turn and you could catch three different paint schemes my jaw dropped when 'my' corvette brought up the rear. :D ^_^ I hope we get announcement of the Gozanti or some other Epic ship soon like the smuggler/merchants ship.

BTW, I caught all the discrepancies so far too though. And I'm reallllly particular about consistency and uniformity. And I haven't the foggiest idea what all the fuss is over any of this show. I love it. Cheers.
