Uh-Oh... nobody is buying StarVipers!

By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

I have been watching the stock levels at MM and CSI for the last few weeks, because as many of you know I love S&V!

I wanted to monitor the expansions until I got my first nice order locked down. I also admit that I like to plan these fleet building purchases out and I like to window-shop.

I am sorry to report that StarVipers are not selling as well as the other three expansions.

What do you guys think about this ship (excluding Imperial usage of auto thrusters) and it's role in SCUM?

:)

I like it. And I'm curious how the generics will perform

Good! I'll buy my second one on sale!

I played it in a few furballs last week and it was a blast to fly.

It is, however, an elite fighter like the defender and e-wing, so not as much reason to buy multiples as with the scyk, and the aggressor almost by default demands 2.

Good

I'll be a special little snow-flake at my store champs :D

And I have to agree with FL, it's not a ship that lends itself to buying multiples

For what it's worth, it is a god **** monster of a heavy star-fighter that no one wants to shoot (esp not Xizor)

I fully intend to pick up a second eventually (along with a second aggressor, a second scyk, a second most wanted, a second falcon, etc...) but not sure when exactly.

I gave the StarViper a chance. I opened it, put it on it's stand. Put it down on a lovely Death Star playmat...

I still looks like it fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down. :(

I think it is the way it looks in the official pictures. Agree that it falls into the E-Wing nitch.

Will surly get one, it will look sweet with a cloud of BS z95's. A second is likely because I play casual with mostly newbs that want to run just a few ships (I provide all so far).

Here here...

I like to think it's not selling cause it's uglier than sin..

I don't care if that's not the real reason!! IM sticking to it!! =p

Cool replies gang!

:)

Yeah I love it too. My only small annoyance with this expansion stems from the Vigo. I would of liked to have see some more goodies for them.

Black Sun Vigos, are as rich in personalities as the lesser known mid-range Reb & Imp pilots.

I love it. I have two and think they look much better in person than on the web. The paint is great and the back end has intricate detail. I will probably buy a third and try flying them as a group. If it wasn't part of S&V I'd say it was out of place, but instead I think it's just been smuggled in from the outer rim. Calling it snowflake is a compliment, kind of like a bouncer named tiny...

I've flown Guri and Xisor before and have enjoyed flying both of them. Not sure how the generics will hold up but I'm liking the ship so far.

I think it may be joining E-Wings & TIE Deffenders in my collection. Thrree of each of these ships is still fun, even in Epic.

If I get ridiculous (more so than usual) and make up some fun Vigos then I will get three more for an elite squadron.

:)

Right now three is good, I think. Plus they prolly will show up on sale, for like $10.

Honestly, I rather wish it's point cost was low enough that I could take it into a Hunger Games match

For me the ship was a must, thus why I picked up 4, because I actually like 'Shadows of the Empire'. I know alot of people didn't like it for 'Han Light' Dash Rendar. But I felt the story really did a good job at the time of bridging ESB and RotJ. The StarViper was a nice new ship design. Most players of the miniatures game have never read the novel or played the N64 game. As for me I am a very avid user of my imagination when I play X-Wing. I can clearly see the 4 foils on the StarViper moving as they do to make this ship the nimble beast it is. I think most players aren't picking it up in numbers because they don't really know it well and it's point costs are that of the elite fighters of the other factions i.e. E-WIng and Defender.

I would say to any of these players.....read 'Shadows of the Empire' because then you'll want multiples of this ship.

I agree but it is a hard sale for Competitive Wingers, I think.

I own it in hard cover. But damnit, that ship looks like something I would squash with the book!

As an Imperial Squint pilot I will admit I picked up the Viper for autothrusters, but that is not the only card in the pack that is useful for the Imperial Navy. Accuracy Corrector is also quite useful. Since I am not that thrilled with S&V ... " bounty hunters, we don't need their scum" I will only be picking up one more ship, which happens to be the S&V Interceptor for the Mangler cannon for my Tie Defenders.

I'm going to get one (maybe 2, mostly for the upgrades), but I'm saving up for the Raider when it becomes available.

As much as I hate the look of the StarViper, I cannot wait to get my hands on that Raider.

That Mangler sure is a pip! I like it more than the HLC, cause it works at all ranges and you keep any crits.

At range one you are still getting four dice... plus you get to convert a hit to a crit for goodness gracious me sakes!

:D

I really would love to use them to set up a 3way shadows of the empire battle sometime. Vader+Imperials VS Xizor+Black Sun VS Dash+Rebels Have a big skyhook model in the middle of the board and award points for kills and whoever has the most points within a certain range gets to make a pass at killing the skyhook (or in the case of Black Sun preventing the destruction of the skyhook)

I bought 2 from my FLGS, and I played Xizor in a list the other night on Vassal since I was crying about not having my scum yet. I had a blast with him. I flew him next to a PS2 Y-Wing pilot with ICT and just let him be a damage soak every now and then. I'm a little unimpressed with the dial, I like my heavy interceptors a little faster, but I also understand why it doesn't go zoom zoom. I doubt I will buy a 3rd, to be honest. Not unless I get a crazy idea about flying the unnamed guys.

What I really want to do is mod the wings to be folded in - I saw someone did that in a Facebook post from the UK group, and have been blown away by that since. Not that I don't already love the model, but with the wings folded in I really love the way it looks.

I think my Xizor was:

Xizor

Virago

FCS

Autothrusters

Veteran Instincts

37 points (I would possibly consider a different elite talent, maybe a illicit upgrade on him)

The rest of his list was

PS2 Y-Wing w/ ICT, Unhinged

M3-A w/Title, Ion Cannon x2 (these little guys also surprised me)
