Revenge of the Autoblaster II

By Herowannabe, in X-Wing

So a couple months back I made a post about how I thought that we would start seeing more of the Autoblaster, and that I thought it had some good potential uses, and mostly I got a lot of doubt and derision thrown back at me. Well now I'm back to say:

:P

I just took a an Autoblaster Dash list to my FLGS Store Championship and did very well for myself, going 4-2 despite going up against a lot of skilled opponents and very competitive lists (If you want details of my list and how the tournament went, you can read them here. This post is for discussing the strategy and mechanics of AutoDash).

I found Autoblaster on Dash to be VERY effective. People think that with the range 1 limitation it won't be hard to stay out of range but that's not the case. With Navigator, VI, and the inherent barrel roll, there are very few ships that can get away from Dash when he wants to be next to you. Moreover, Autoblaster works great against all of the popular things in the Meta, including most of Scumm and Villainy's new toys. AutoThrusters, 3P0, cloaked Phantoms- none of them do anything to stop autoblaster hits from getting through.

:P

I'm not well versed in smilienese, but I believe that translates roughly to "na-na na-na na na"

was going to suggest predator and intelligence agent instead, but I can see the value in V.I navigator.

I've toyed around with dropping VI or Navigator or both for something else, but both upgrades just work so well for what I need them to do. VI puts Dash at PS9, allowing him to move after most everybody else, including Phantoms, especially if you win the Initiative bid. Navigator is awesome for avoiding blocks or closing the distance, as needed. Navigator is definitely a must have for AutoDash, IMO. VI could maybe be dropped if you have something else to deal with high PS arc-dodgers.

EDIT: As I think about it, I may end up dropping VI and toy around with some other things, such as PtL or Lone Wolf. Dashigator makes for an awesome blocker, too, and as long as you can get close to where they're going to land, even if they don't bump you you'll most likely be at range 1 to them.
