Is IG-2000 worth getting?

By Chief Hugh, in X-Wing

The ship doesn't look that good to me and doesn't have the same appeal of putting it on the board as Fett or the new Star Viper. If you are excited about it please let me know why. I know that it can have two cannons and has it's super dooper loop.

YES! GET TWO!

This thing has become my new favorite ship. Let's have a look:

Stats:

PS: 6. Always.

Attack: 3. The offensive "good."
Agility: 3. The defensive "good."
Hull: 4. Solid, especially when hiding behind 3 AGI

Shield: 4. Again, a nice healthy boost, and pretty hard to hit.

Right off the bat, this thing's got great stats. The Defender was scary because of it's stat line, but the cost and difficult dial turn many away from it. Now, we have 2 more HP to fight through.

Upgrades:

Twin cannons. A main attacker, and maybe a backup weapon. IG-88B is great here, because of the built-in cannon gunner. My current favorite is the Mangler Cannon because it's packing a respectable 3-dice, just like the primary, and it works at all ranges. Range 3? No prob, take away their range bonus. Range 1? A free crit, or the four-dice primary. Your choice! Miss once? Try again! ALso doesn't hurt to have a utility cannon (flechette/ion) for situational use, if you have the points.

Systems. One of the best upgrade slots around. FCS works great with B, so you can modify your second attack. Personally? Advanced Sensors wins. It'll allow you to take your S-loops and intentionally bump for superior maneuverability. That's solid gold.

Bombs. Soon to be improved with wave 7, or so the rumors say. And by rumors, I mean Alex Davy.

Illicits. The tricks of the trade. A one-off turret attack for when maneuvers fail? Maybe a sudden stop with dampeners! Crazy little things that could go off at any time.

The Title. What makes the Aggressor truly unique. Sharing pilot abilities, 3/4 of which are extremely useful, is crazy good. Look at those abilities, and understand how potent they can be when you're facing two of em at a time.

The Dial:

1-turns on large ships are pretty sweet. That's a very tight turn, as demonstrated in the past by the Falcon.

1-straights and 1-banks are green. Also good.

2-turns. Nothing special, but still useful to have.

2-straights and banks are, once again, green.

No 3-turns, sadly, but they're replace by the S-loop. Not only that, but IG-88D gets turned sloops. The center of the board is yours to control. Watch your asteroid placement, though.

And once more, 3-banks and 3-straights are green. Nice.

To top it all off, a red 4-K-turn. Just in case both banks are blocked.

In conclusion, what's not to love about this monster?

I'm loving this ship! The upgrade cards are fantastic and the double pilot ability (through the title) is a lot of fun to build lists around. I also over looked how amazing having two cannons was until I played a game with two equipped.

I'm excited for it. But, that is mainly because I am a fan of the ESB Bounty Hunters.

If you're just looking for a large ship to anchor a scum list, stick to the Firespray. It's got better abilities, just as customizable as the IG-2000, and is easier to fly. The IG-2000 is more durable than the Firespray in a fight (sometimes) but it loses a lot of attack power without a turret or rear arc.

I got four, so I can play the full gamut in 200 point games.

I will say that the ship looks better on the table than it does in pictures (or in the box). A few illicit upgrades in the box are really nice and it makes for a great change of pace. Flies like no other large base ship in the game.

Now, is it worth it? Depends on what you would rather do with that money. Would buy one of these before a third Starviper for example. I do wish the IG would come with at least one copy of autothrusters but oh well.

YES!

Bought 4! Have run 2 @100 and 4 @200. Love it! It flies like no other large ship. Super, super fun!

Upgrade cards:

Accuracy corrector (also in star viper)

Dead Man's Switch (exclusive, I think 2x)

Feedback Array (exclusive, I think 2x)

Hot shot blaser (also in most wanted)

inertial dampeners (also in star viper)

mangler cannon (also in m3a)

proximity mines (also in slave1, which makes other bomb lists problematic)

Seismic (slave1 / tie bomber)

If you're planning on playing Scum, you need it. Most Wanted comes with a single Hot Shot Blaster. The StarViper comes with a single Inertial Dampers. The IG-2000 gives you an extra of each of those cards, along with the Accuracy Corrector, and two copies of the Dead Man Switch and Feedback Array that are both exclusive to that ship. You need it like B-Wing players needed shuttles for Advanced Sensors prior to Wave 4, or Interceptor players needed A-Wings for Push The Limit before Imperial Aces.

Really? I thought the opposite. I thought the IG-2000 had a better (Star Wars) look than the Star Viper.

But that's just me.

Not to mention it's loaded action bar sir if you want to run PTL you have plenty of great actions and green maneuvers to get rid of that stress

Hell. Freaking. Yes.

These things are the most fun I've had playing this game in a while. Advanced Sensors, boosts and S-Loops are a truly glorious combination.

To top it all off, a red 4-K-turn. Just in case both banks are blocked.

Or if you really want to cover some distance. Advanced Sensors and boost turn that 4-K into a 7-K.

Honestly if you enjoy the game and have any sort of paycheck why not get at least 1 or 2? 4 .. eh.... I'm not sure maybe if you play casual epic games.

I guess the question would be "Is one (and only one) worth getting?"

Allot of advice have been get two or get nothing. It is obvious that the title only works if you get two. So the question is if you only have 1 would you still have value. Will you still be able to make good lists and/or have good use with the other upgrades that come with it. It is a no brainier that having two gives you the most play.

So is one (and only) one worth it, or do you have to wait until you can afford two?

One by itself is still a very, very solid ship. B or C would be the best choices here, as they do best on their own. D is my favorite, but you can live without his added maneuverability if you're only limited to one. Send B/C in a list with some escorts, maybe a Firespray and some Z's/Scyks, and you've got yourself a pretty nice team.

It's been said 1000x before, but I'll say it again:

If you're gonna buy one...

FOR PETE'S SAKE BUY TWO!!

I agree that the ship is ugly. It also seems that it´s best suitable for a single type of a build (2x IG2000). Knowing myself I will probably buy it (x2) eventually but I will probably skip it for now.

Just last night I watched two defenders and a firespray annihilate a twin aggressor list, my mate Gary had never flown anything imperial before but got a sound win not losing any ship just a few shields.

The defenders outmanouvered the aggressor thanks to the k turn and it was them not the firespray that killed the two aggressors.

I used it last night and it was amazing. 3 Agility? Evade? Boost? I threw on Outmaneuver, Inertial Dampeners, Advanced Sensors, and Stealth Device and I ate ships for snacks.

I need to buy a second.

One for the mission, great rules for three-way battles between legends. This means you have to buy a second one because the mission begs for it.

2 definitely, any more and you are being greedy.

I'm only getting one for now, If i feel the need to run two i have a friend i can borrow another one off. Ain't all that convinced that running two aggressors is going to be the most effective scum list a 100 points anyway.

Is IG-88 right around the coolest, in your opinion, thing/person/sentient in the setting?

If yes, then yes.
