I currently have some Battle Foam trays for my X-Wing collection. I have had some small problems with them. The ships with thin parts (X-Wings and Z-95s in particular) tend to get stuck and end up with their wing mounted weapons bent or snapped. A friend but some KR Multicase that seemed to be less porous. I also like how the KR allows you to place your models with the stands still attached. Problem is KR does not have a custom build option. I hate to buy trays I do not need, just to get my models stored. Anyone have some thoughts on this, or perhaps know of an alternative?
KR Multicase or Battle Foam (or something else)?
I've got some battlefoam trays and have experienced similar problems. Though I do plan on putting some tape on the areas for Xs/Zs. Hopefully that will protect them a bit more
The ability to design and commission custom trays for a reasonable amount is what keeps me going back to Battlefoam. They also do those cardboard stacker boxes - so I don't have to spend $$$ on expensive carry cases - since I'm rarely transporting my entire collection.
Feldherr do lots of different sized foam trays and cases - but most of their store is out of stock at the minute - so I don't know what's happening there...
I've found all foam systems cost a lot more than I want to spend. I've gone down that rabbit hole with one game system already. Your collection always grows and you then spend even more on the blasted foam.
Do the X-wing minis really need foam? I've seen other game systems where you paint your minis and get worried they will break or rattle around and fall apart (for glued metal minis). X-wing comes pre-painted and are solid plastic. I don't think you need foam. Well, maybe if you fly with yours?
I use a Plano 1374 case and have only had one Tie Advanced panel fall off since Wave 1. That was fixed with some glue with no problem at all. I leave my ships on the pegs and it's easy to pop them on the table. I think I spent a total of $25-30 on it. It used to hold my entire collection, but with the arrival of Scum, I have had to move the Tantive IV out of the case.
I've never had a problem with my Battle Foam trays, although I can see where thin parts like the OP describes could stick.

Wow this looks real good ! I believe you are right. The foam is not really necessary with the SWXW models. They are rather durable. I am going to look into one of these cases. Thanks for posting this !!!
Also what is the white box in the first picture (with the YT1300 printed on it)?

You're welcome. These Plano boxes are great. I recommend going to a sports store and looking at all the tackle boxes. If no one is looking, swap the various trays around to get the good mix of what you want.
What's in the white box with YT-1300 picture on it? Why, a YT-1300! Look at the various threads about "tuckboxes". There are a few people that make these awesome PDFs. You can print them out on cardstock, fold, and glue for some great boxes to store your minis. I had my big ships in my last tray, but with S&V, I needed to move them out. Wasn't sure where to move them until I saw those tuckboxes. I put them in the top now in their boxes as I don't want them to rattle around on their own.
Very cool and thanks again...bye bye battle foam, hello tackle box!
I have the same Plano as heychadwick. But I use the tuckboxes inside too.(overkill?)
I cut a couple of the dividers so I can still fit the Falcon and Decimator in the trays. I'm keeping the top part open for Epics.
I went out and bought the same box tonight from gander Mountain. Now to try and safely store my collection inside !
