Victory SD "confirmed" as medium size

By megamen, in Star Wars: Armada

hi folks,

Don't know if you caught it, but the Victory SD was confirmed as a medium ship in the text of the ambush objective. In the text of the article, yu are allowed to keep a small or medium shop in reserve for the ambush. Then a Victory SD is used as the example ship for an Imperial ambush.

Good catch. I sped through on my first read, and was hoping to have time later to go back and dissect it in detail to catch just this sort of juicy tidbit.

Nice find!

That makes me very happy!!! :P

Figured as much. It was unlikely the VSD and ISD would both be considered large.

So maybe...

150m - 500m is Small.

550m - 1000m is medium

and

+1000m is large

Is it me or are the scales all off?

Cr90 corvette should be 150 meters in length, the VC SD 900 meters in length and im unsure of an Imp Class SD but the Cr90 will fit in its hanger bay alone lol.

I get that it would be some what implausible to do perfect scale...I just want bigger star destroyers :D

So Motti makes VSDs 10-hull ships.

Armada was designed using a sliding scale, so bigger ships will still be bigger, but they won't be as large as they would be if the scale were constant. This makes the Corvette look really big, and will make Star Destroyers look smaller than they should be.

From that it would also be possible that the VSD is considered a small ship :P

Oh God. I am so glad I am switching to this from X-Wing. Hopefully it will be less math-hammered and more fun to play.

Yes! Yes! This is what I wanted to hear!

Imperial Star Destroyer here I come!

There will always be people who want to do the math to find the"best" stuff to use.

Just play what you want and how you want and enjoy.

Odds are good this will be even more mathed. I suspect there will be much more point traps in this game than in x-wing.

I looked at x-wing and thought not for me. But since its been out it's opened up the miniatures scene to alot of players, some being my friends who bought load of x-wing stuff so because they want to play it, I play it also as they play the games I want to play.

They recently started doing random draws. So there is a stack of ship cards and a stack of mods, crew etc and we agree on a points limit and draw randomly until we get as close to the points limit as we can. Its made for some fun games :D

That is a cool idea, actually.

Y'know, after seeing the latest article that actually had a board setup and all, since they obviously are using some sliding scales the SSD and kin are probably still a possibility for future new formats. Just saying. Like you point out the Victory is 'medium'. So like large, and huge could be after that?

As a math guy having done this with 40k i can say that finding the optimal solution for such a game using math breaks it and removes the fun of it. Now a few years later i never do that again with any game and just play by intuition or at max by on the fly calculating the next roll or descicion to be made. Dont waste your experience with the game by mathing it out. you rob yourself.

Well, so it IS the base size that matters.

Will there be an ISD and a Mon Calamari Battlecruiser in the next wave?

Or will they be saved for an Armada Epic format?

Can't wait to see an ISD in the game! Even if it would not be in scale - it would be massive.

+ 1 to this my friend.

Hehe. Madtulip I can only wholeheartedly agree with this assertion.

It's all about immersion and rolling away 'fate'.

Remember, Han never liked hearing the odds...he had C3PO shut down for it. Hehe.

I'd be surprised if Wave 2 wasn't just an ISD and Mon Cal. Maybe with a "Advanced fighter" pack or some anti-starfighter capital ships. I doubt the ISD or Mon Cal would be epic only. However, I do think they'll be in the 120-130 point range for a single ship. So you may be able to squeeze 2 in, in 300 point game, but with little fighter support or upgrades. I don't see them doing a Epic format for Armada beyond just a new set of rules to balance the game past 300 points. I don't think we will get "epic" or huge ships.

Bad news.

I hope they shrink the "bigger" ships heavily. No "epic", please. The scale of Armada, which allows for maneuvering on an average table, is one of the things that will make it superior to X-Wing. A larger playing field and smaller ships also diminish the problem of the "edge of the world".

Epic play will always be optional. Just like in X-Wing it is a separate format, just because they release 'epic' ships doesn't mean you need to buy em or use em.

Speak for yourself. I do "need" to buy them. :P

FFG's MO is to release tempting upgrades no matter what format. Raider has the Tie-Advanced buff. CR-90 made the Falcon a world beater.
