New Releases Delayed???

By Santiago, in Dark Heresy

Hi,

I was wondering are there any new releases delayed?

Radicals was planned for Q2 but is now noted as released in the fall

The rest of the haarlock trilogy is't even on the release schedual and neither is ascension...

Does anybody know more???

Nope, but I can make a guess... combine an ambitious release schedule for DH, the upcoming release of RT and an overall weak economy and product delays make sense. As I said, that's just a guess.

To add one more insult to the injuries... what has been on schedule recently?

Indeed! The delays are substantial. However, Amazon still indicates that Haarlock's Legacy pt.2 is due on 14th July, 2009.

I'd appreciate comments from FFG on that.

I was looking at some of the comments about the art for the radicals handbook on the preview page, and was surprised at how negative the comments were. I think FFG are doing a great job: the art is fantastic, their approach to the game has been inclusive, professional and the Creatures Anathema and Haarlock Legacy books (both produced under their wing) were brilliant.

The ONLY gripe I have with FFG is their apparent tendency to be overoptimistic about release dates. Every book they've released so far has been (according to their own schedule) late.

I actually don't mind if FFG set out a slower release schedule. If it's a choice between:-

(1) Being told a book will come out on 1st July 2009 and it actually comes out on 16th October 2009

or

(2) Being told a book will come out on 30th October 2009 and it actually DOES come out on 30th October 2009

I'd rather have the latter, even if I have to wait an extra 2 weeks for the book.

Delays get the fans twitchy, we pester each other on the forums for information, and it stirs up ill feeling. Of course, arguably it generates word of mouth for a book, but I think the general sense of dissatisfaction outweighs that.

Plus if, for example, you want to order a book in time for Xmas or a birthday as a present for someone, or put it on your own wish list, it's immensly frustrating for it to then come out 3 weeks later! I would like to save Rogue Trader and take it with me on holiday to read on a beach somewhere, but there's no point trying to do that really, because on past performance I have no idea when I'll actually get my hands on a copy.

It really is the only problem I have with FFG...

I've noticed a few things about FFG's habits as a publisher. I'm a buyer at a bookstore so I'm closer to the vendors than the average customer.

Back when they first took over Dark Heresy, I seem to remember FFG saying that they made sure to get their stuff to the Friendly Local Gaming Stores first, before they ship to their Corporate clients like Amazon and the big distributors. And for the most part this has been the case, Amazon never gets their FFG stuff when they say they will --mainly because when they list an item, if they don't have a hard release date from the publisher they make one up.

Now the other thing that I think we've all noticed is that FFG has delays. It's just a part of their release process. From what I understand, it's something FFG was known for before they acquired Dark Heresy.

When I saw the 2009 release schedule I thought maybe this would change. And then Tattered Fates came out in May, about 6 weeks after the end of Q1,the suggested release date. Creatures Anathema was originally slated to be a December release--at least as far as the release schedule on the FFG site was concerned--and we got it in mid February, about 6 weeks later. And Disciples of the Dark Gods was a Sept release from all we'd been told and we got it in November.

So I guess what I'm trying to say here is find out when FFG says the book is coming out and add at least 6 weeks. I don't think there's any evidence that they've canceled anything yet, just that they're on their normal delayed schedule.

I think it sucks too, but every time an new book comes out it's like christmas, so I guess I can handle it.

I've been very happy with the releases so far. I do get antsy, but since I only have time to GM every other week, and make up a bunch of stuff myself, I'm not stuck.

I think some GMs just ref published stuff only, and if they play a lot, it will run out. If that is you, maybe take a break from Dark Heresy, put the campaign on pause mode, and play something else, like Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. Plenty of published adventures there!

Uhm, we've tried that... But it didn't work. We have plenty of other RPG's that are superb. That is we (or atleast myself) used to find them to be great. But every time we took a break from Dark Heresy, I just couldn't stop thinking of when we would get back to playing it again.

I don't know, me and my group are just totally nerded down on Dark Heresy and the 40K universe right now so it's hard to want to take a break from it. Still these past few weeks have been spared from gaming sessions due to most of the group being busy on other fronts, which have given me ample time to start planning and drawing out two ideas for scenarios I have in mind for a longer campaign.

Come to think of it, maybe I should write down the lot of it and post it somewhere? (Dark Reign or something like that)
